Each time the authorities close in, Loren eludes capture by revealing a swollen belly; back in 1964, Italian law forbade the arrest of a pregnant woman until six months after the child's birth. In "Anna," Loren is married to a wealthy industrialist and has an affair with Mastroianni. So obsessed is she with material possessions that she's willing to walk out on Mastroianni when he smashes her sports car. And in "Mara," high-priced prostitute Loren attracts the attention of a young seminary student, but refuses to seduce him -- then takes a vow of chastity, aggravating her regular customer (Mastroianni). While the first episode is the funniest, it was the last episode which received the most press-coverage, thanks to Loren's "striptease" scene, revealing La Loren in skimpy bra and panties (a bit parodied by the stars in Robert Altman's otherwise-dreadful Prêt-à-Porter). Though the title Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow has absolutely no relation to the film at hand, it is a far more appealing cognomen than the film's British release title, She Got What She Asked For. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

An anthology of three short stories, each starring Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni and dealing with sex in some manner, and each amusing in a different way. The first story is about a woman who continuously had children in order to avoid going to jail, the second is about t... read morewo new lovers taking a car trip, and the third concerns a boy preparing to enter seminary, a prostitute, and a very frustrated man.

I thought it was worth watching, especially for Sophia Loren fans.

An anthology comedy for a change, all stories starring two fantastic actors: Mastroianni and Loren. The stories are hilarious, and any one of them would make a great full length movie. I really enjoyed this movie.

Charming! Yesterday/Adelina is a delightfully satirical view of Italian law, family, and community. Today/Anna is a spoof on the malaise affecting the too rich and bored (signature Moravia). Tomorrow/Mara comically mixes sex and faith. The last segment reveals a very animated,... read more goofy, but loveable, Mastroianni. A light-hearted and fun trilogy.

This movie is made up of three segments all starring Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni.

In the first, Loren plays Adelina, a woman who feels more well when she is pregnant than when she is not. It's a very funny story about using pregnancy to avoid jail time. The segment i... read mores about some serious societal issues like private debt, collectors, not practicing birth control, the poor's ability to afford child care, and neighborhood charity. It is all presented in a humorous fashion. And this segment seems to contain the most of De Sica's neo-realist style.

In the second, Loren plays Anna in a short head-scratching bit that I felt pulled the whole movie down. Most of it is shot in a car and being so short the characters are not given the chance to develop much.

In the third, Loren plays Mara, a prostitute. Mastroianni is a wealthy, but childish, excitable client. An old woman lives next door and her grandson has come to visit before going away to school to become a priest. He innocently falls for Mara with no idea of what she is and changes his mind about going to seminary. Mara and the old woman exchange angry words and then eventually arrange a deal. If she can help convince the young man to still go away to become a priest, she will be abstinent for a week. Mastroianni keeps on being interrupted in his sessions with Mara and is just along for the ride. This segment is also rather funny at times.

Not a must-see classic, but still a light enjoyable comedy of 3 segments that all feature terrific chemistry between the stars Loren and Mastroianni. My favorite is the bittersweet middle story "Anna" with Loren as a bored, spoiled politico's wife and Mastroianni her disenchante... read mored beau for the day.

Not at the same level as Bicycle Thieves or Umberto D., but it's another masterpiece all the same, bringing a much-needed humor, warmth, and sexuality to the director's work. Full Review

De Sica may seduce us with his breezy comedy but concealed beneath is his usual preoccupation with class, making the laughs in Yesterday, Today And Tomorrow delightfully brittle. Full Review
