This colorful spoof of pirate movies had all the makings of a classic farce and yet sank straight to Davy Jones' locker at the box-office, for despite it's all-star international cast of famous comedi... read more read more...ans, and despite the fact that it was largely co-written by "Monty Python"-veteran Graham Chapman and former "Fringie" Peter Cook, the darned thing just wasn't funny. The sketches center around the core story of the dread pirate Yellowbeard's quest for a fabulous treasure, the map for which is tattooed on the head of his prissy son, who wants nothing to do with ships and pirate shenanigans. This was the final film of bug-eyed, beloved comedian Marty Feldman, who died of heart-failure before production finished. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Pretty lame film with a sterling cast of legends most of which are sadly no longer with us, you could look at this as another 'Monty Python' type film along side others like 'Jabberwocky' and 'Time Bandits' but alas this film doesn't have much of the laughs and visual flair that ... read morethose films do. The plot is your basic Treasure Island type thing but just totally crazy and loony hehe most of the jokes are prat falls and childish along with allot of sexual japes, again which are kinda dumb and childish.
Unfortunately this was the last proper film for 'Python' Graham Chapman and also the last film for British comedian Marty Feldman, its a shame that the film is known for those two sad reasons and not much else, only for total fans really as there isn't much to recommend in this silly film, even the stellar cast can't save it.

Take actors from Mel Brooks, Monty Python, and Cheech & Chong movies and you get this slightly funny mess. John Cleese who was actually in the movie said it was the worst script he had ever read and Marty Feldmon died during filming.

Poor pirate spoof film with comic talents including The Monty Python and Cheech & Chong.

Watchable and a promising plot but tries too hard to be clever.

Loved it as a child. I guess it didn't stand the test of time. Still some funny moments.

With half the cast of Young Frankenstein, and half Monty Python + Cheech and Chong the laughs are plentiful. But overall, the movie fails on many levels, but it is a classic because of the players involved. You'll be disappointed if you expect this to be another Monty Python outi... read moreng. Loved David Bowie's cameo and Madeline Kahn's pluckiness. James Mason, however, looks vaguely uncomfortable and bored.

An Ok movie that had some funny moments & some also not so funny.I mainly watched it because I thought Cheech & Chong were in it more then they were but they were only in the 1st scenes & then again towards the end. What a jip!

though entertaining and definitely clever in spots, this pirate spoof with an ensemble cast of comedic gold isn't that golden itself. spoof or no spoof, a pirate movie needs swashbuckling and a spirit of adventure--what little this film had was tame at absolute best. the script ... read morewas not especially well-written, with wooden characters and humour that was far-too-often forced. I also thought they overdid it on the rape jokes--the first one was pretty hilarious, but after that not so much. relatively enjoyable, but given the cast and premise, this film is a bit of a let-down

I thought that it was ok, not the best but it was ok. The main reason I watched it was because Cheech and Chong. David Bowie actually is in the movie as well, which I found to be a great joy. He's at about 51 minutes in with a shark fin on his back. I have to say he was the highl... read moreight of the movie.

3 of 5 stars for the movie comedy Yellowbeard. Monte Python meets Mel Brooks. Well this comedy parity of pirate movies combines the talents of Monte Python (Idle, Chapman, Cleese) with Mel Brooks' team (Mars, Kahn, Feldman, Boyle). The result is a funny lightweight comedy. Richly... read more photographed, lots of sight gags and funny dialog. This is truly a turn your brain off, sit back and relax funny movie! If you are looking for a deep plot with lots of drama or suspense, don't look here! Yes, I do recommend this!
