Other than crazy sexy Penelope Cruz, I think Harold Perrineau was my favorite part! Sassy crossdresser. Fab! However, I think the story kinda lacked and shouldn't have ended like it did (she went back to the jerk who cheated on her?! Really?!) ... BUT! I did like the fairytale as... read more

FUCK!!!! Damn stupid film! It was going brilliantly: Penelope falls in love with Mr. handsome, slick and smooth, he treats her like crap, so she leaves and then thanks to a nifty witchcraft subplot has her love for him taken away. She goes to America where she's a success - getti... read more

Sooo, Penelope plays a very bad, very stereotypical Brazilian. So the movie is cheesy and very very predictable. But you know what? Penelope is so hot in this, I'll just give it 3 stars for that. Yeah, I am that gay, I suppose. ;-)

Probably my favourite hetero romance movie out there. Penelope Cruz is perfection. I hate it that she ends up back with Tunijo at the end, but I love the suggestion that Cliff & Monica end up together too :)

Okay, so everyone else might have hated it, but this is one of those movies that seem bad, but I actually love. I can't stand Penelope Cruz normally, but I did love this and its magical realism, breezy flavor.

Good music. A very relaxing movie to watch. But a bit cheesy for my personal taste.

My first HBO movie favorite, EVER :) The story's about this Brazilian woman Isabella Oliveira (Penelope Cruz), who decides to become strong and independent from her cheating husband Tonino by visiting her best drag-queen friend in SF. Ends with the happy ending for everybody (inc... read more
Critic Reviews
Attains a rarified air of fantasy that may not be wholly uncalculated, but with Cruz at its center is certainly watchable.
A soufflé that collapses before it reaches the half-baked stage. Full Review
An actively annoying experience.
Are you happy to spend the entire movie worshiping [Cruz's] beauty and celebrating her character's self-actualization, or do you want a little more on your plate? Full Review
Woman on Top can't overcome a story that's little more than a lumpy, uninspired contrivance. Full Review
You know it's working when it makes everything in it look good enough to eat, including the San Francisco transit system.
It won't please the cynics, but it'll make the romantics among us smile. Full Review
Tries too hard to be playful and sensual, wacky and romantic, and comes away feeling fake and prefabricated instead.
