What to Expect When You're Expecting Reviews and Ratings

What to Expect When You're Expecting was just OK for me. It had a couple actors I liked in it, but not many. I only liked a couple of the story-lines. I could have done without Cameron and MJM's story completely. I liked Holly's story, but my favorite was Chace and... read more Anna's story the most. They were funny, flirty, and their scenes were the most realistic besides Holly's. It had it's funny moments just not enough. I expected more laughs and better dialogue. Dennis Quaid was really funny and was fun to watch act like a complete ass of a father. It's not something I would watch again.

A dirty diaper bag of sex jokes, sentimental mush, cartoonish claptrap and weary parent-to-be cliches, What To Expect When You're Expecting delivers a stale plot, mostly underwritten characters and almost no joy. Expect little and you may not be entirely disappointed.

The book "What to Expect When You Are Expecting" is the basis for this film. This book is the closest thing in inspiration to the board game films that have been piping into theaters lately. I understand that this has a little more meat to its bones, being about the extremes of h... read moreaving your first child, but the film itself does not explore pregnancy. Instead it deals with the different stages and eventual scourges of family life. The stories of several women and their partners intertwine to create a narrative about conception, family, adoption, and the merits of pregnancy, all the while failing to be entertaining. Instead of being about what to actually expect when you're expecting, the film focuses on trying to interweave all these flawed narratives in order to have a long enough running time, which turns out to be far too long for a film of this type. Time is allocated for some couples more than others, and that miscalculation makes it so we end up watching scenes of a very pregnant Elizabeth Banks gross us out time and again. Actually, I don't want time to develop any of these sub-plots. There are several great performances, especially from Jennifer Lopez and Anna Kendrick, but they are playing the same characters they have already visited in "Pitch Perfect" and "The Back-up Plan." I did enjoy these performances most, probably because they weren't following the formula of baby makes three. One is about adoption and the other follows a miscarriage, and both still dealt with what you expect from pregnancy. Cameron Diaz gives a forgettable and sinister performance, Matthew Morrison looks half asleep, Chris Rock is so out of place that he draws unwanted attention to himself, and Brooklyn Decker and Chace Crawford could have been out of the picture altogether and nothing would have been missing. It's just a misguided, thoughtless cop-out, and though I know some people found some of these storylines truly heartwarming and sweet, I just found myself wondering why anyone could connect to cardboard cutouts instead of characters.

A dull dull film which follows multiple couples about to embark on parenthood, if this film doesn't put people off having kids then i dont know what will. The only slightly interesting thing in this film is how all the couples cross each others paths in different ways. Not worth ... read morewatching, even if it is to pass time, pointless and boring film.

Blah blah blah- the cast could not save this wreck of a bore.

Wasn't honestly as bad as I expected it to be. There were some parts that I thought were really cheesy, but overall I thought it was funny and the characters were likable and relate-able. I also liked that all the stories were interconnected. I thought it made it flow better.

Cheese. It's like watching a Steve Martin movie without Steve Martin. Every woman is pregnant and giving birth at the same time. It's crap.

Exactly what you would expect. this sucked.

Garbage...I was sucked in by the number of stars, though I knew it would suck. The only reason it got a full 1 star is because of Ben Falcone, who brought a couple laughs, otherwise this was a 1/2 star movie. Skip it!

The problem is that the source material obviously didn't have a story arc and either did this movie. Sure there are a few funny lines (mostly shown in the preview), but that doesn't justify making a movie.

This was a movie that started off really well, being genuinely funny and entertaining. Then it sort of lost its hook by the middle of it but gradually got better towards the end. This kind of made the movie incomplete since it just started getting better. Because once it started ... read morebeing good again you wanted more and you wanted to know what happened next and there were some questions that needed to be answered but weren't. Other than that it was an okay and enjoyable romantic comedy about the upsides and downsides of being pregnant and giving birth.

This movie provides plenty of laughs, particularly to parents who already have an idea of what each character should expect when they're expecting. However, most of the storylines are void of any a substance which impacts how the audience connects with each couple and their parti... read morecular situation. I would have liked to see more from the young food truckers and Diaz's story had some moments, but the other couples couldn't be taken as seriously because of the constant and unnecessary slapstick. I think we can all agree that the film concept of using an ensemble cast with an intertwining story doesn't work, especially in a comedy and especially without an airtight, flawless script. I loved the director's first film, Waking Ned Devine, but he has since struck out with every subsequent release.

It's barely watchable most of the time but it has its moments. Overall, a very forgettable movie.
