Wendy Wu has a one track mind, and that track leads directly to the title of homecoming queen -- no unscheduled stops, and no unnecessary detours. When a mysterious Chinese monk named Shen arrives to mold Wendy into a fearless kung fu warrior, however, her royal aspirations suddenly jump the track as she desperately attempts to juggle her boyfriend, her homework, and of course, the fierce competition to become homecoming queen. Now, as Wendy begins to train her mind, body, and spirit in the ancient tradition of the martial arts and her inner warrior gradually begins to emerge, the girl who once obsessed over popularity finally begins to put that popularity into perspective as she gradually realizes what truly matters in life. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Cool action for a children's film.
  • June 10, 2011
kind of like a Disney version of Kill Bill, (but you know with no blood), but it is a fresh new and interesting idea for a Disney Channel Film

In terms of style it may be suitable for children, but it's an extravaganza of Asian stereotype. The training montage was horrible, her family didn't even look like her, so what the heck?

I might be too old for this movie b/c even though it's Disney and Brenda is cool, it was not very good. :p

i liked this movie. pretty cool. but i didn't think it was good enough for a second one. if they do make it, then they need to keep brenda song in it.

I thought this movie funny and interesting.
I liked what I saw even with the outragous storyline, I thought it was pretty fastenating.

I was really sceptic about that whole chinese story "thingy", but it was alright. Way better than I expected. A nice movie :) The biggest reason why I liked it was because of Brenda Song. LOL.
  • August 28, 2008
Surprisingly not as bad as I expected, held together admirably with strong acting from Brenda Song and Shin Koyamada.
  • August 9, 2008
Wicked martial arts scenes. I found Wendy annoying and shallow most of the movie but she comes around in the end.

it's a pleasure to see Brenda Song actually get her own vehicle on the Disney Channel Full Review

The script, penned by no less than four writers (!), is as vapid and brainless as Wendy Wu herself... Full Review

David Cornelius,

The action is slick and the family theme is sweet, but Wendy Wu ultimately collapses under the weight of all that obligatory Disney Channel formula. Full Review
