After the zombie apocalypse, one of the living dead finds that he has memories of being alive, and even what it means to love. This zombie twist on Romeo and Juliet starts out with a great premise, but the longer it goes on, the more it sacrifices satire and insight for unlikely ... read moreromance aimed at the "Twillight" crowd. Not bad but a bit of a missed opportunity.

An interesting concept on What normally is a recycled plot!
Likeable characters, original and amusing but still even with that originality is an average movie.

With the sheer bad movies that have plagued the horror genre so far in 2013, it's really a glimpse of fresh air to see this zombie comedy. Along with Mama, Warm Bodies the second genre film that should appeal to horror fans. For zombie freaks, seeing this film should be a no brai... read morener. The film has been described as Twilight with zombies. I know that seems farfetched, but it couldn't further from the truth. The film is a romantic comedy with zombies and with that said it's a fresh twist on traditional zombie movies. For it being a "Twilight with Zombies" film, well, that's crap because Twilight sucks and scraps the bottom of the barrel of bad ideas. However Warm Bodies although showcases a zombie in love with a human girl, is a far better movie in terms of plot, acting, entertainment value and oh yeah effectively reinventing a classic genre. There are some really good performances, especially from its two lead actors. Director Jonathan Levine crafts a solid comedy horror yarn that definitely is a must see for zombie hounds everywhere. This is one of the most surprising films of the year so far, and if you're skeptical about seeing this, don't be. The film is quite entertaining for what it is, and is funny, grotesque and charming all at once. There is much to me with this film, but it nonetheless has its flaws. I felt that the material in some places was weaker than other parts. Luckily the film was always funny and managed to overcome its flaws due to a good script and a wonderful cast aided by effective directing. I really enjoyed this film, and I thought it offered something quite different and original to the Zombie genre. Warm Bodies has its imperfections, but succeeds great due to its concept and humor. This is a film that is sure to delight the most demanding zombie fan.

Yes, Warm Bodies does for zombies what Twilight did for vampires. But fortunately for us zombie fans, this movie does not suck. It's a heartwarming, hilarious mishmash of genres that plays like an extended episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. There's comedy, action, romance, horr... read moreor, and drama and it's all evenly balanced under the confident direction of Jonathan Levine.
It's also an interesting re-invention of the zombie film. Where the zombie virus infects humans with a single bite, consuming human brains can infect the zombie with certain feelings and memories of the person. In this sense, the film also reflects the whole notion of love being like a contagious disease. This is a cute and very entertaining movie.

Not at all the exploration and bending of a genre it should have been, nor does it tell its story in too sensical of a manner. But it's cute.

Both sweet and hilarious, ''Warm Bodies'' is an extremely smart and effective take on the romantic comedy genre. Hollywood, please hire Jonathan Levine for a big-budget studio film because he will do you a big favour.

'Warm Bodies' is a unique and interesting take on your classic love story, replacing confused boy with confused zombie. Adequate thoughts that turn into inadequate conversation is one of the brilliant metaphors applied throughout the film that make it a fun experience. Though pre... read moredictable and patched with boring spots, 'Warm Bodies' deserves some praise for its original idea and its splash of cool.

Warm Bodies is pleasant but not perceptive. William Shakespeare did this way back in the 16th century when he wrote Romeo & Juliet (another influence). Even The Bard of Avon was borrowing from earlier traditions. "Love Conquers All" is the timeworn concept. Simply adding zombies ... read moreto the mix is just a lazy technique to make this generic material seem fresh. "We've kind of done vampires to death so let's concentrate on zombies now," is the impression I get from the way the story pitch went. Additionally the illogical plot contrivances further irritate matters. If someone killed my sweetheart, I'd run in the other direction, not date them. Warm Bodies is based on the debut novel of author Isaac Marion. Not having read the source text, I'm not sure how much of the script contains the root of Marion's ideas. Unfortunately the screenplay adaptation feels more like the result of a focus group than the outcome of genuine inspiration.

The newest film to take a stab at reinventing the zombie genre, "Warm Bodies" is most certainly a soulful romance. Adapted from the book of the same name by Isaac Marion, this film bridges the gap between Twilight haters and lovers by giving them the earth shattering agony of ado... read morelescent love and rejection, fit within the parameters of a horror story, without the undertones of domestic abuse. This post-apocalyptic world is set in war torn New York City were the survivors of the zombie takeover live in the innermost section of the city surrounding by a concrete wall guarded by soldiers. In the outer limits is a network of zombies, known as "corpses," who troll for flesh and shuffle around an empty airport. Also in the mix are creatures called "bonies" who are former corpses that gave up hope for recovery.
The lead character is a corpse named R, whose voiceover provides insight into the true nature of the corpse community, one of utter loneliness and moral affliction at eating people. R has all the trappings of the stereotypical hipster: he collects thing others consider junk, only plays vinyl for the better sound quality, and continuously wears a red hoodie. He has no true backstory, mostly because he, like every other corpse, doesn't know who he was at the time of his death. Still, he comes across a woman named Julie, a fighter with the human resistance out to salvage medicine, and saves her life. Taking her captive as he falls deeper in love with her, both slowly realize the potential for change and the hope for humankind's resurrection. A much deeper connection links them, as R occasionally devours the brains of Julie's former boyfriend, Perry, and retains all his memories of Julie, a type of corpse dreaming.
Nicolas Hoult ("X-Men: First Class") is perfectly cast as R, giving a great performance as a speechless, limb dragging zombie with a look of confusion, most times overshadowed by longing looks at his female companion. Other interesting performances come from John Malkovich ("Red") as a widowed general who is hell-bent on revenge against zombies, Rob Corddray ("Seeking a Friend for the End of the World") as a friend of R and another element of sweetness and sad sack self-reflection to this rom com, and Analeigh Tipton ("Crazy Stupid Love") as Julie's best friend, coming off as concerned and yet eccentric.
Because this is a love story, and a zombie one at that, you would think there would be some large, catastrophic circumstances that would keep these two from one another, apart from the fact that one of them is dead. The film lacks horror, or even basic tension, because there isn't a real villain in the film. There are obstacles, but never a grand force that needs to be thwarted. The bonies descending, Julie's overprotective father, and the plight of the newly heart beating corpses are things to overcome, but aren't difficult problems to solve. Her father is the only thing keeping these two star crossed lovers apart, and we don't even get the full story of why he's so angry at the corpses. Yes, his wife dies at their hands, and it's easy to admire the subtlety of merely mentioning it in passing and have it be memorable, but it's too weak. Julie's mother dying is a pivotal point to their problems and yet is only offhandedly mentioned in an argument. The ending comes off as nearly anti-climactic because there isn't a huge fight scene that controls the couple's fate, only gaining understanding from those who have been hurt by the zombie apocalypse and fear change or recognition.
With all these grand illusions to Romeo and Juliet (R-Romeo, Julie-Juliet, Perry-Paris, Marcus-Mercutio, Norah the Nurse) it would have been better if there was someone to overcome besides her father, who is only opposed based on the fact that R is an undead, which seems fairly rational. The cure was also nothing all that special or mind blowing. It wasn't completely biological, and came without explanation, though it did tie in with the sweetness of the love story and the overall tone of the film.
It didn't quite fit into rom com or zombie genres, and for that it's appreciated, but it could have been stronger. Still, one of the better love stories, and one that becomes complicated not because of a tangled script but through human emotion or undead emotions, if you will.

I love zombie movies, and I always love seeing a different take on the genre. "Warm Bodies" in a lot of ways is basically "Twilight" with zombies(only much, much better). Julie(Teresa Palmer) is a human who leaves a walled up city with a group to recover medical supplies when t... read morehey are attacked by zombies. R(Nicolas Hoult) is one of the zombies and when he eats the brains of Julie's boyfriend, he inherits his memory and feelings and becomes instantly attracted to Julie and saves her from the others. They then form a bond, which is slowly curing R(that's all he remembers from his name) of being a zombie. I'll give the movie points on creativity and doing something different, even though there are a lot of scenes that don't make sense(she wants to leave, he says no because it's not safe, so they drive a car around). The acting is decent, nothing great, but nothing that really ruins the movie. If there was something I really didn't like about the movie, it's that it is one of those movies where the trailer gave all the funny parts away. It's funny, but it's really much more of a romantic movie than a comedy(maybe because I had seen the previews so many times). Having said that, "Walking Dead" comes back next week, and this is a good movie to watch to hold you over for another week. There's enough here to please zombie fans and the girls that get dragged to it who wish they would make another "Twilight".
