Wanderlust Reviews and Ratings

Wain's most scattershot effort is still damn funny. I laughed out loud multiple times, even if the film suffers from the Apatow school of cutting around improv. Still, Wanderlust has a plot as well as laughs, and Wain ends up making it all work while delivering some timely themes... read more on consumerism and personal gain.

The script starts outs great, but it loses momentum. Instead of a fully formed storyline proceeding to a satisfying conclusion, we get one dubious skit after another, none of which are particularly funny. The humor grows childish and immature. Paul Rudd uncomfortably sitting a t... read moreoilet while people chat with him like he's in the living room is an example of a simple-minded sight gag, not wit. The narrative is directionless, without a point. There's a scene in which George, staring in a mirror, is trying to psych himself up for sex he doesn't want to have. He begins speaking in this bizarre hillbilly accent about how he wants to be with the woman in question. It's just Paul Rudd, freely ad-libbing for 5 minutes. The resulting soliloquy is one of the most pathetic and embarrassing moments I have witnessed an actor I respect do. Imagine Elmer Fudd talking about his penis and you'll get the idea. These are jokes aimed at children who just learned the mechanics of how men and women procreate. The film is two distinct halves, the initial part that seems focused and purposeful to an end and a subsequent one that is an aimless series of moronic skits. Two stars for the promising first half and no stars for the second.

This movie was freaking hilarious! Rudd and Aniston made a great pair.

a decent comedy, some good laughs and a sense of fun throughout, Paul Rudd seems to be doing this role all the time but i like that and not to mention Aniston, but the film runs well, and its never dull, some great banter throughout working well.

There are plenty of laughs in this movie. There are also numerous quirky and funny characters. The plot has some weak moments but the laughs make up for it.

It's pretty much my gut instinct these days that if Jennifer Anniston is in a comedy, it's going to suck. Her track record with the genre speaks for itself. Normally I'm more than happy to completely ignore her latest picture and leave it to my wife on her chick flick movie night... read mores with her friends. But after last year's Horrible Bosses, and Anniston's best performance since The Good Girl as a raunchy, sex starved bitch of a boss, she sparked some optimism in me concerning her career choices. So when Wanderlust came along, starring an always enjoyable Paul Rudd, who more often than not makes good choices, and directed by a guy somewhat affiliated with the Apatow brat packers, not to mention its hard R rating, I thought 'cool, Anniston is off and running with this whole raunch comedy career path.'

Wanderlust is one of those funny (not haha funny) plots that's about as easy to swallow as a pint glass. Meaning right off the bat you've got two mega celebrities playing characters who are supposed to be broke and struggling. Living in Manhattan in an apartment they can't afford the size of my bedroom, and stressing about how they will afford to eat. The net worth of both of these people in real life could probably solve world hunger twice, so unless you're really good at pretending, the movie starts off asking a lot.
Through a series of unfortunate events (thank you, Lemony Snicket), these two find themselves pulling into a bed and breakfast type place run by a commune of hippies who share everything and don't believe in doors, or monogamy (hello, Manson family). Their first night there they get stoned and go skinny dipping and have a blast and following another series of circumstance, they decide to go back to the commune and 'try it out' for two weeks to decide whether or not to drink the kool-aid.
The plot follows the basic guidelines for the standard Hollywood comedy and no plot 'twist' (more of a curl really) will come as a surprise or a shock to anyone. Being a restricted comedy and being that it takes place in a hippie commune, there is gross out stuff, cursing, drug use and a shitload of nudity, but at least there's no scenes where the peak dramatic moment happens in the rain! Oh wait, there is.

Wanderlust is a movie I can see a lot of people getting a kick out of, I don't know what its Rotten Tomatoes rating is right now, but I'm sure it's fresh (that's good) and it made me laugh quite a few times. Paul Rudd and Jennifer Anniston are very Paul Rudd and Jennifer Anniston in it. They don't have a lot of range or versatility (especially Anniston), but they get the job done. There's some great supporting performances, most notably Alan Alda who, let's face it, turns every movie he's in's awesome dial up a notch, but excluding Justin Theroux, who's hippie leader performance annoyed the hell out of me for some reason.
The movie has no redeeming message or moral value, so don't go in looking for that, and its by the book plot structure induces boredom on more than one occasion, but if you're into something that aims for Horrible Bosses or, to a much less extent, Bridesmaids style comedy but falls short, then go for it. You'll laugh, you just might forget you saw it before you leave the theatre.

Some great perverse humour. Love Paul Rudd and his many facial expressions that tell us so much, without a word.

Funny and cute. Paul Rudd is fantastic as always, I love Jennifer Aniston, and they make a wonderful couple.

Surprisingly entertaining comedy with a barely believable story and characters, but the dialogues are above average for this type of Hollywood comedy and there were quite a few good lines or scenes that made me laugh. This is nothing to go to the cinema for, unless you want a bas... read moreic entertainment, but is a good sunday night movie.

While Wanderlust offered a few chuckles, it certainly was inconsistent. There's not a lot to say about it, really. It offered a couple of hours of amusement but I certainly wouldn't recommend it or rewatch it.

Paul Rudd, you have finally brought yourself back to normal. After the last couple of your movies were not the best, you went back to being you and for the 1st time in a few years, you had me crying, thank-you. Now as for the movie, it's not great by any means, but Paul Rudd is... read more funny enough to make this watchable, and it will have you laughing, especially when he's standing in front of the mirror and that's all I'm going to say about that. The people in this movie are very strange, and yes, I do know that is how they are supposed to be but man, they are just weird. Now, Jennifer Aniston, in 2011, for the first time in her movie career, she was very funny (Just Go With It), here though, she is just 2nd fiddle to Rudd who is at his comedic height and she gets kinda lost in the shuffle, fortunately she is hot enough that she still gets noticed. This was made from the same people that made Role Models and although it is nowhere near that movie in terms of Comedic scenes, and story, this does has enough laughs and Rudd delivers so I would have to say RECOMMENDED
