Ewa Stroemberg stars as Linda Westinghouse, an American working in a Turkish legal firm. Lucy is plagued and thrilled by a series of erotic dreams concerning a mysterious vampire woman who seduces her before feeding on her blood. When she travels to an island to settle Princess Korody's inheritance, Lucy recognizes the beautiful woman as the vampire from her dreams. A poetic, arty horror film which begs comparison to the work of French director Jean Rollin and Spaniard Jose Larraz, Vampyros Lesbos is an ode to indulgent, funereal excess and is among the most peculiar, gripping films of Franco's career. Dennis Price and Paul Muller co-star, while Franco appears as a hotel porter. Various versions run 89, 82, and 78 minutes. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

A enjoyable and sensual watching with visible fake blood, some exaggerated interpretation and all the kitsch a B movie type can offer.
Different from what you would expect of any vampyre movie, in Vampyros Lesbos most scenes are in a sunny and paradisiac outside and the plot is ... read moreinsteresting, playing with "reality" and imagination.

This film exploring erotic obsession is among the more famous and respected of prolific Spanish director Jesus Franco, who is also known for his "bad taste." Falling somewhere between arthouse and grindhouse, it's too trashy for some while too personal or difficult for others

If you are a Franco fan, you know this one already. The film has a huge cult following and deservedly so. A good example of 1970s-era Euro-Horrotica. If you have been thinking of seeing your first Franco film, this is a good choice.

This a unique movie for 3 simple reasons:

-Soledad Miranda is so damn hot she could melt the poles in minutes (a shame she passed away so early)
-Jess Franco always creative camera work
-One of the most, if not the most, psychodelic soundtrack mankind has recorded

Franco was a ... read moresoft-core director, no questioning there, but with a sharp eye for exotic visuals. If you want some euro-trash-camp that is both delirious and fun to watch don't hesitate to get this one.

A mildy titillating, but ultimately lame vampire flick from Jess Franco. The base story is similar to the original Stoker novel. A lady lawyer, Linda Westinghouse, goes to a mysterious woman's island home to probate a will for her. What she doesn't know is that the mystery woman ... read moreis actually a vampire -- the implication is that she was turned by, and was the mistress of, Count Dracula. But this lady likes to walk on the wild side, and prefers her own kind -- that is, she likes women over men, hates men as a matter of fact. Features some softcore "girl-on-girl" action, a soundtrack that some find groovy but irritated me, and a snoozefest of an onstage striptease number. Very slow and dull in places, and confusing in others, in that two of the main female characters are almost identical. Some of the worst blood effects I've seen. Either the blood looks like raspberry Kool-Aid or red cake frosting. Set in Istanbul, in German with English subtitles.

Caught this on late night cable, and couldn't turn it off. It really wasn't that bad!

The title really gives away the film here, its about lesbian vampirism. The two beautiful actresses Soledad Miranda (rip) and Ewa Strřmberg get all sensual on us, undressing quite often and all is fine. Ewa is not so certain if she wants to turn into a vampire though. Thats is pr... read moreetty much the story with the film also being a loose remake of Dracula . It is stitched together a bit incoherent, of course. as only Franco can do.

What makes it pleasurable to watch is the incredible surreal feel of it, the psychedelia, its quite like taking acid I guess. Franco himself also had a hand in the fantastic score which is worth buying on cd if you can find it. I have to admit I don't know what to compare this film too, its a surreal film with a dreamlike atmosphere.
I would say this film is more of a experience and the kind of film you don't see anymore. You also get Soledad Miranda who life was cut short way to early. She could say more with a look than most actors can with a page of dialogue. To sum up here, this isn't a film for everyone but if your looking for something off the beaten path this is worth checking out.

So bad it is good ... the editing and the dubbing is awful which adds to the movie ... worth a watch with a cold beer and a sense of humor.

Let yourself fall under the spell of this campy, corny and yet quite effective little '70s Eurotrash remake of DRACULA.

In VAMPYROS LESBOS, director Jess Franco inverts the story so that all the male characters are female and has all the action take place in broad daylight. Perh... read moreaps the best example of this is is when Linda Westinghouse (Ewa Stromberg as the Harker character) meets Countess Carody for the first time--it's Soledad Miranda, the mysterious, exotic and doomed Portugese beauty in all her resplendent glory: tanned, moist and clad in a white bikini, her depthless eyes shielded by huge sunglasses. A vampire sunbathing! Of course they promptly head to a secluded beach for some nude frolicking.

Along with the well-known soundtrack, VAMPYROS LESBOS offers lots of funny arthouse satire, and a fairly efficient plotline. But the real reason to watch this film is for the one and only Soledad Miranda, who across thirty years still has the power to captivate viewers. With those surreal, dreamy sequences of her dancing with a mannequin, and her frequent nude scenes, you too will find her clouding your mind. Sadly, she was killed in a car accident not long after finishing this film. Alas, Soledad Miranda...

so i wanted to see this because i'm a big fan of the Hubler & Schwab score. who knew a movie about lesbian vampires could be so goddamned boring?
  • March 4, 2008
Does not deserve any stars, nothing vampiric here, other than two lesbian women that like to cut up other people during sex or after and repeats through out the film. BORING! *yawn* Stake these two whores and be done with. Title is half correct, should be Lesbos Muertos... Lesbia... read moren Deaths. Well seems more appropriate. (laugh)

Extremely prolific and generally untalented, Jess Franco is the Spanish Ed Wood, albeit without Wood's gift for humorously inane dialogue. Full Review
