Unsurprisingly, Yanne evolved as a mature, confident and well-adjusted young woman, while Axel emerged as a selfish, pompous, spoiled-rotten brat. As adults, the two have no contact with one another, but Yanne longs to reacquaint herself with Axel.. Fate intervenes in the form of Maria, a Polish friend of Yanne's who commences housekeeping work for Axel's foster parents and accidentally discovers a photograph of Axel as a young boy - the same photograph she spotted on the wall of Yanne's apartment; she then decides to reunite the estranged siblings.
