Francisco is bright and does well in school, well enough to earn a scholarship to attend a well-respected prep school upstate. While Francisco is exited about the opportunity, his girlfriend Erika (Erika Rivera) is upset that he's leaving and feels he's abandoning her. At the same time, Francisco's best friend Brandon (Brandon Thorpe) thinks Francisco is turning his back on his culture and his neighborhood, though in many ways Brandon's reckless habits represent the sort of life Francisco is trying to escape. At school, Francisco is an outsider patronized by many of his classmates, and few expect him to succeed, while back at home Francisco is losing touch with the people who mean the most to him. Up With Me was the first feature film from writer and director Greg Takoudes. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
