A teen comedy that does not quite rise to the level of that age group, this uninspired story features Ron Liebman as the Major, a sadistic instructor at a military school. Ralph Macchio (before his 19... read more read more...84 hit, Karate Kid) and other teens of every stripe suffer through the indignities heaped on them by the Major and do their best with the sexual, ethnic, and racial stereotypes that the script gives them to handle. I really liked this movie, it's very funny and goofy, and it's a good teen story too. If you like teen comedies I highly recommend it, and it's brought to you by Mad Magazine!

More transgressive than almost any teen comedy, but not funny enough -- though it's funnier than Cracked, funnier than the Lighter Side Of... And it's funnier than Police Academy and more visually interesting than Stripes. Ron Liebman may have taken his name off, but really, his ... read morerole isn't well-written and his performance is lacking. The movie isn't bad. Also, the soundtrack is hipper than it should be and so is Ralph Macchio.

This was Mad magazine's first and only attempt to emulate National Lampoon's film success is dull and not-so-hilarious comedy I ever watched.

Since Up The Academy had MAD Magazine in the title I couldn't wait to see it & expected it to be hilarious. It wasn't bad at all & had real funny moments here & there where I couldn't help but laugh but it just wasn't as great as I thought it was gonna be.I grew up with MAD Magazi... read morene so I was disappointed that they just seemed to put their name on the movie to get people to watch it.What a jip!

Although I wasn?t expecting a sophisticated comedy, I also wasn?t expecting it to be quite this stupid. Very juvenile humor, but hardly a family film. Poorly written and the acting is none too good. Very rarely even amusing. It's just a stupid movie and a waste of time.

Now here is a juvenile, frivolous teen-age boys' film from three decades ago that is humorous and kind of cute. It has a few good jokes, and the overall tone is parody, which while mild mannered by today's standards, is funny enough to compensate for a rather tame plot. As funn... read morey as Caddyshack (which isn't saying much) but with a more cohesive storyline, and not a mindless retch-fest like American Pie.

This movie has the 80's haloriousness (if thats even a word) But i really enjoyed it and encourage others to see it.

So bad but not that bad. This is one of the first 80's teen sexploitation movies and Mad Magazine produced it. Ron Liebman stole the movie but reportedly was so embarassed by his performance that he had his name removed from it. I liked USA Up All Nite and this is the stuff that ... read moreit featured.

Typical 1980's goofy comedy but I like that kind of humor. My husband and I to this day will still quote "Tickle your ass with a feather?"

In an attempt to follow National Lampoon, it was the first and only film produced by MAD Magazine. One viewing reveals why. Full Review

Notable only because its star, Ron Liebman, sued the studio to have his name removed from the credits and advertising. Full Review

I can plainly understand why several involved parties lobbied to get their names removed from this film. Full Review
