In the original box-office smash Under Siege, action hero Steven Seagal played Casey Ryback, a U.S. Navy SEAL who saved the world from nuclear destruction by outsmarting and killing off terrorists who... read more read more... had commandeered a submarine. In this sequel, Seagal's Ryback character does the same sort of thing aboard a train. Ryback now has retired from the Navy and is taking his niece Sarah (Katherine Heigl) on a vacation. They board a train traveling through the Rocky Mountains. Criminal mastermind Travis Dane (Eric Bogosian) is using the train as a control center in his effort to kidnap a top-secret government outer space super-weapon. Dane built the weapon but then was fired by the government before it was deployed. He has hooked up with shadowy Middle Eastern terrorists who have offered him $1 billion to use the satellite to blow up the Eastern seaboard by targeting a secret nuclear reactor underneath the Pentagon. Dane shows the Pentagon that he's got control of the weapon by blowing up a Chinese chemical plant. Officials can't stop him because they can't locate his headquarters. As long as the train keeps moving, his location can't be fixed. Ryback learns of the plot and enlists a porter named Bobby (Morris Chestnut) to help him in his battle. ~ Michael Betzold, Rovi

A weak excuse for a sequel, on from Seagal's best, but we can forget this movie, can't we?

Geoff Murphy's directing credits may not look all that impressive, but Under Siege 2: Dark Territory is a pretty good action thriller.

This movie does serve as a sequel to Under Siege, but the story stands alone and this makes this picture completely watchable wit

... read morehout having seen the first.

A bunch of terrorists want money, so they hijack a train and setup some fancy equipment to cause mass destruction around the globe. Luckily, Casey F****** Ryback is here to save the day.

Most of this 90+ minute film takes place on a train and it does serve as a nice setting for a hostage rescue situation. The action is a plenty and this is all that is expected with the usual shootings, beatings, explosions, and a decent knife fight near the end.

Steven Seagal is Steven Seagal. Katherine Heigl is beautiful. Morris Chestnut is partially entertaining and partially annoying. As for the villains, they are the stars of the show. Eric Bogosian is a delight to watch as the clever Travis Dane and Everett McGill makes a good foe for Steven Seagal.

There is nothing out of the ordinary with Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, but it is an entertaining film for those that want to see Seagal whooping some butt. "Chance favors the prepared mind."

Saw this in the cinema. It isn?t very good. One star for the chopping off of the bad guys fingers at the end.
  • September 3, 2008
Incredible Die Hard on a train with some amazing stuff and action sequences with Steven Seagal.
  • April 20, 2008
He had to make a sequel, didn't he? Actually, this followup to Seagal's best-reviewed film isn't that bad, but it's not a great film, either. I'm a bit of a Bogosian fan, but he seemed at times a little too over the top as the villian. Seagal was his usual self in this film, kick... read moreing ass on a train instead of a ship. Not too bad of a film, but don't expect the same quality as the first.

    Pointless

The inevitable cash-in sequel to a decent original, this is not half as good, but still a million times better than anything else Seagal has done.
  • April 29, 2007
More of the same this time on a train. Not as good as the first but better than a lot of action films.

Formula Seagal, no surprises

Good set-up, well-shot, but Seagal never allows any villain to be much of a challenge for his character, which saps the tension.

Crappy follow-up to a mediocre but enjoyable action film.

Run-of-the-mill Seagal. Could be better, could be worse.

An imbecilic and unnecessary restaging of the original, this time onboard a train.
