A number of different people from Turkey go to Britain for a better life, to study, etc. Leaving behind poverty or lack of opportunity in Turkey is the main motive. Another accidentally shoots someone... read more read more... in a street scuffle and decides to leave the country for safety. But Britain, "the island of hope", is more an island of despair for them. One character is reduced to prostitution, another becomes a cocaine addict - though not all meet with horrible fates.
