The Ultimate comics were a great re-imagining of the Avengers in a gritty, more plausible and realistic universe.

Unfortunately, their animated counterparts always lack the sophistication, depth and maturity to communicate any of that.

So here we have this little abomination. ... read moreIt's kind of disheartening to see a cast that has such potential distilled and simplified into a brainless extravaganza of explosions and contrive drama for "young viewers" but here it is.

2 stars instead of 1 because god knows this is as good as an adaptation of these characters in animated form are going to get for decades to come.

More like an episode of the animated TV series, rather than a movie. It's rushed, not much story, but there is a lot of action. This doesn't even compare to the DC Animated movies(and I've always been a marvel guy myself). Those movies feature great animation, and solid storyt... read moreelling. This showcased lackluster animation and a story that shouldn't have been crammed into 68 minutes. Captain America's origin starts the movie out, then we get just a couple minutes with the rest of the Avengers. Luckily with the live action movies, we've gotten each characters back story out of the way. Here, their all just thrown together at random. While the action is what you would expect, don't expect much more from this. I just hope, and pray, that the live action movie next year is far better than this.

It was good and entertaining cartoon movie, love the voices, the story is great!

Comparing this to the DC animated movies it is a complete failure, but it's really pretty decent and translates The Ultimates fairly well. By no means does it capture the brilliant writing or art that the comics had, this gets the basic storyline and characters down. While it cou... read moreld have been a lot better, it is nowhere near as bad as it could've been.

Awesome enough until a live action version comes along. Groups the heroes together in a rather poor plot but the characters and actions are great. Most have limited time but are true to themselves. Best of all is Captain America. His origin takes us from WWII to fighting aliens. ... read moreThe film deals with him entering a new time with his loved ones gone. There's even a sweet subtle moment as he looks into many TV screens displaying his image as he waves. His bodyguards look on slightly bewildered. Hulk is the other main focus here and again it tackles his curse with a quick but decent emotional depth. The animation is great, better than a Saturday morning cartoon and not being seduced by more recent Anime influences. The vocal talents are also well cast. Overall a great piece for fans.

I never bought comics books. If this movie is the best comic books can write, I now know why. Save your money. Move on to the next movie.

Im glad that Marvel decided to take one of the greatest story arcs ever written and was able to shit it out, eat it and then vomit it up.
  • October 31, 2011
Compared to some other other superhero animations such as decent Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes from Marvel and the excellent Justice League Unlimited from DC this offering is childish, poorly scripted and poorly animated. Definately one purely for the kids.

You know, I would love to say that I adored this. But... I was completely unimpressed by the nonexistent character development and "safe" plot. And the villains? Oi vei. The animation is fine, nothing that would stand up in theaters obviously, but just all right. I'll skip t... read morehis for the Iron Man special features, thanks very much. ;)
