Chappelle's Show writer/producer/director Neal Brennan makes his feature directorial debut with this retro-minded comedy purported to have been produced in the 1980s but never released until 2006. As ... read more read more...the Gunderson family sets out on a cross-country road trip to their new home, boyishly handsome Charlie (Mikey Day), blossoming dancer Lori (Dominique Swain), and highly intelligent Max (Trevor Heins) all have their own ideas of what life will be like in their new town. When Charlie is singled out as the least popular senior on the very first day of school, kindly outcast Billie (Nicki Clyne) amiably agrees to show him the ropes and provide him with an illuminating crash course in the clique system. Meanwhile, Lori is shocked to discover that dancing has been banned in her new town and the only place to cut loose is at the clandestine dance sessions held in the garage of current janitor and former dance instructor Gabriel (Chris Kattan). Immediately forbidden from attending the highly secretive shindigs, Lori stealthily sneaks out to be with the kindly Gabriel as her feelings for the dance instructor grow and the pair set into motion a clever plan to usher in a new era of dancing around town. When Charlie vows to win the heart of popular girl Kimberly (Brittany Daniel) by competing against her athletic boyfriend, Kipp (Joey Kern), in the upcoming school decathlon, lovelorn Billie quietly pines for the clueless newcomer from afar as he begins a rigorous training regiment with Japanese gardener Yamagashi (James Hong). As his family struggles to adjust to their new life, reclusive genius Max continues working on a highly advanced home computer that soon draws the attention of the CIA. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Words fail me on how bad this actually was. However, if you are an 80's movies fan as I am, you will probably still enjoy picking all the 80's movies it rips off and looking at the fashions!

    Hilarious!

Time for this to get an upgrade from 4 to 5 stars, because for me personally there are few comedies that make me laugh as much as 'Totally Awesome'. My favorite tribute to 80s movies! Although this was made for TV, I love it more with each viewing. It captures each cliche perf... read moreectly, tying in classics such as Foot Loose, Dirty Dancing, Karate Kid, Pretty In Pink, Some Kind Of Wonderful and so on. I love how each character is portrayed to a tee, even the score is brilliant and seems to come straight from that synthesized era! Viva the 80s!!!

In all fairness I only made it about 20 minutes into the movie.

As a HUGE fan of the 80's, there was a few funny parts for those of us who have seen Karate Kid and Footloose.

But, a bit much for me--for example the boob shot at the beginning? I guess thats making fun of 16 c... read moreandles?

Chris Kattan & Tracy Morgan totally save this movie from being "made for TV" blah. They spoof a bunch of 80's movies mostly Karate Kid & Dirty Dancing and that is the funniest part of the plot. Trying to figure out what movie they are spoofing. "Peek-a-boo I'm'a Hump You"-Trac... read morey Morgan's Character is hilarious! But mostly bad acting and senseless fun.

It was OK, some really funny parts and I kind of liked the way they made fun of some 80's movies but I doubt I would watch this one many more times in my life.

This was really stupid, but kinda funny at the same time. It could have been done better. But, hey...It was good enough.

I love Joey Kern... but this was not so good. Well, I guess since it's a made for TV movie, it's better than most.

It knows enough about its subject to come up with nifty joke ideas, but can't quite turn them into solid chuckle material. Full Review
