Pollack Williams

Feminist-minded photographer and filmmaker Lauren Greenfield details the ravaging physical and mental effects of anorexia nervosa by following four anorexic women between the ages of 15 and 30 as they... read more read more... struggle to recover from their illness over the course of six excruciating months at a Florida residential treatment center. As the complexity of the disorder emerges through scenes in which the afflicted struggle through dispiriting weigh-ins, revealing therapy sessions, and painful meal times, Greenfield offers a revealing look at the devastating effects of a media driven by impossibly high standards of physical beauty. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

"'Do you want to get well?' they'll ask. You'll shrug and look at the scale, wondering how off it is, whether it will lie and tell them you weigh three pounds more than you actually do. You will be obliged to correct it, on principle, to save your soul, and for your pains you wil... read morel find yourself with a new address, Eating Disorders Unit, Eighth Floor, having confirmed their suspicions, because who, with a pulse of forty-three and a systolic pressure careening in vertical swoops, gives a flying fuck if the scale is three pounds off? An anorexic, that's who. Does she care if she's dying? Hell, no." -- MH, Wasted

And this is what it?s all about; the story of five women who suffer immensely through an eating disorder clinic, trying to find their recovery path. Watching stick skinny women pinch at their skin, cry at the dinner table, hide salt and pepper packets in their bedrooms, watching them smoke to burn off the calories, throw up their self-rewarding salad, and say if dying is the cost of being thin then so be it. This documentary is dismal, powerful, and educating. Highly recommended if you?re interested in the topic.

AMAZING. Truly inspiring. There's also a book which I have yet to pick up, but I've heard nothing but wonderful things about it as well.

love this movie! It's not a cheesy-chick flick, it doesn't aim for cheap tears (exsample : aww they fell in love but he has uncurable butt-cancer and right after confessing their love to each other he walks into the sunset and poops himself dies...( actually I think I'm going to ... read morego and try to sell that idea to life-time...)). I think it's one of the best documentarys I've seen. It's captivating and it doesn't aim for a spacific audiance.
