Good old fashioned drama that gets better as it goes along. Well directed and acted but similar to the superior They Drive by Night.

Very interesting Noir-esque film by Dassin. The film takes some unexpected twists and turns while still being very dark at times. The ending is especially surprising.
Worth seeing if you are a Noir buff -

Jules Dassin?s excellent direction and the tense atmosphere make this a fine film noir well worth watching. Good acting by everyone in the cast. Dark and brooding, great pace.Excellent cinematography and use of light.

Lots of Italian characters talking all Italian doing shady Italian underhanded corrupt business and throwing around their Italian fists played by American actors. Not bad.
