Victoria led a very controlled and protected life as heir to the throne. Everyone wanted to manipulate her. The movie covers the early years of her reign and her romance with Albert. Good movie and good cast.

An engaging, sumptuous royal drama featuring some exquisite art direction and costume design, but what mainly stands out here is both Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend, who shine together as Victoria and Albert and really make us care about the characters.

More familiar with the dour demeanour and full figure of Queen Victoria in her late years, it is hard to imagine that she ever had a youth as beautiful or as lively as that portrayed by the exceptionally talented Emily Blunt. For a princess locked away like a delicate piece of ch... read more

I'm not really big on period pieces but I wanted to see this to go with "Her majesty, Mrs Brown" and I really loved it -- It moved along a lot better than some of those movies (I hated "Sense and Sensibility" because I thought it REALLY dragged) -- This showed me what even a Quee... read more

"You are confusing stubbornness with strength, my dear. And I warn you, the people will not like you for it."
I think I've seen more of these British historical/period dramas in the past year than I had seen in the entirety of the previous twenty-three years of my life. I guess ... read more -

This may be the perfect shared entertainment for daughters just growing out of their princess phase and mothers with their own challenges balancing love and work. Full Review
The way this story is told is just basically by people reading letters in voiceover while you look at beautiful furniture. Full Review
I wonder: Was the director of The Young Victoria wearing a corset right alongside Emily Blunt? This is one tightly constricted period drama. Full Review
It's a muddled but plush experience overall, and if you're a royalist completist or a historical romantic, you'll probably have a decent time. As much as Blunt may have wanted the role, though, I'm no... Full Review
You don't have to be a royalist to be moved by beautifully staged coronation and wedding moments, and composer Ilan Eshkeri scores such scenes with music so thrilling you'll feel you've got a front-ro... Full Review
I didn't quite believe that this tiny girl could become the most powerful woman in the history of the world, but at the time perhaps no one believed it. Full Review
Emily Blunt is utterly charming in this dramatization of the young Victoria's ascension to the throne and her courtship with Prince Albert. Full Review
What emerges is a genuinely affecting love story, although it takes patience to negotiate the early intrigue. Full Review
A biography that is quite enjoyable to watch, and a bit too easy to forget. Full Review
