Martin will deliver anything anywhere, but he has three iron-clad rules - once the plan is in motion it cannot be changed, neither he nor his customers are to ever use their real names, and under no circumstances will he open the package. Martin is hired to make a delivery to a wealthy but unscrupulous American known as Wall Street (Matt Schulze), but after taking possession of the package he realizes that whatever is inside happens to be alive. Breaking his own rule, Martin opens the bag to discover a beautiful Asian woman, Lai (Shu Qi), who is bound and gagged. Lai briefly escapes, but Martin captures her, and delivers her to Wall Street as promised. However, after being given a parcel to deliver by Wall Street, Martin finds out what Wall Street is up to - in partnership with Lai's father Mr. Kwai (Ric Young), Wall Street is part of a scheme to smuggle Asian illegal aliens into France. Martin's conscience gets the better of him, and he sets out to rescue Lai and put Wall Street and Mr. Kwai out of business; however, as if this wasn't enough of a challenge, Martin discovers a French detective, Tarconi (Francois Berleand) has gotten wind of his illegal business. The Transporter was the first English-language feature for Hong Kong-based director Corey Yuen, who along with directing a number of HK action flicks designed fight choreography for several American films. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

2002 French actioner chronicles the work of character Frank Martin, AKA the Transporter. His job is to deliver packages, and he consistently lives by three specific rules.

This film, though appearing as a 90-minute car commercial, was very watchable and notably fun. It was oft... read moreen goofy, and that is something hard NOT to admit, but with the explosions, action, and interesting plot, it was a fair-enough film.

The action sequences were well-done and often carefully worked out. THE TRANSPORTER uses slow motion effectively and not so heavily that it gets exhausting; and the camerawork during action sequences is just about as rapid-fire as the guns going off, being extremely well-timed, too.

This was a very diverse film. Corey Yuen, who directed, and Qi Shu, who acted, are both from Hong Kong; Louis Leterrier, who also directed, is French; and the main actor, Jason Statham, is British. 'Nuff said about that.

The main reason I enjoyed this film was because of the level of entertainment it set. Highly entertaining and very watchable, this film was a surprising watch. I'd recommend it.

The transporter was directed by both Corey Yuen & Louis Leterrier but essentially it was directed by Louis Leterrier. He seems to have been Luc Besson's go to man during his producing era (I'm so glad he's directing again) and you can see why. Everything wrong with the Hollywood-action-genre of today. Over the top, clearly staged sequences, blatantly forced badassery, unimaginative (and somewhat incoherent) storytelling.

This is no masterpiece, but it's definitely one of the better films of the modern action era.

Due to Jason Statham's larger than life persona, you might expect this to be over the top and unbelievable from a logical standpoint. However, this can be taken quite seriously and it's very much in the same reign as Die Hard. It allows itself to be fun, but not a joke. Jason Sta... read moretham as Frank Martin manages to kick dozens of people to their graves, very rarely using any sort of weapon beside his body. Even though he has a soft side, he has no problem getting dirty and doing what is necessary to get the job done. Louis Leterrier is one of the best action directors working today, this is only one example of his incredible vision for the art of ass-kickery.

Jason Statham is a guy that delivers illicit packages for shady customers. A film with just over the top action, and it's about the only thing going for it, The Transporter could have benifited from a second rewrite and different cast, maybe this film would have worked. But unfortunately, it didn't do anything for me, good idea, but very poor execution.
