Over ten years after making the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Tobe Hooper returns to his deranged family of reclusive cannibals for another round of chainsaw chases and non-stop screaming. Hooper ... read more read more...brings a real budget this time (having recently directed Poltergeist for Steven Spielberg) and the talents of veteran make-up artist Tom Savini. This means he can make things bigger, louder, and gorier than ever before -- and they are. He also brings a wacky, self-deprecating sense of humor, as if deliberately flaunting Texas Chainsaw Massacre's status as one of the first and still greatest "splatter" movies. The result is an impish take-off on the original film (and contemporary horror movies in general) that elevates its own clichés -- buckets of blood and gore, droll dialogue, the screaming female lead -- to the level of high camp. The movie is loosely concerned with a small-town disc jockey named "Stretch" (Caroline Williams, who does most of the screaming) and an embittered Texas Ranger named "Lefty" (Dennis Hopper). They team up and decide to put an end to the murderous activities of the Sawyer family once and for all (that is, of course, until Texas Chainsaw Massacre III). The real highlight of the film is when Stretch and Lefty find their way into the Sawyer family hideout -- a ruinous, winding abattoir underneath an abandoned amusement park -- and engage in a chainsaw-battle-to-the-death with Leatherface (Bill Johnson) and the rest of the clan. Jim Siedow is back from the first film as the acerbic Drayton Sawyer, the family cook and owner of the Last Roundup Rolling Grill. Chop-Top (Bill Moseley) and Leatherface do most of the movie's dirty work. ~ Anthony Reed, Rovi

Lefty: One of those boys was so crazy he sawed his own head off going 90 miles per hour.

"After a decade of silence... The buzzz is back."

Wow I really didn't think this sequel would be that bad. I thought it would keep the things that made the first so great, but Tobe Hooper ... read moretotally sold out. He decided to make the movie everyone else was making in the 80's, instead of making a sequel that at all fit with the first. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 feels less like the first and more like a Friday The 13th sequel. It was complete garbage.

If the movie had likable qualities they were Dennis Hopper and Caroline Williams. For a leading lady in a slasher like this, she wasn't too bad and damn did she have some nice legs. Among the bad things this movie does is making Leatherface into a pussy. It also has a ridiculous opening sequence that ruins everything that was cool about how the teenagers died in the first. I liked that you had to go to them in the first. Now they are coming after you; that's bullshit.

Everyone had a terrible laugh and the only similarity theme wise, is that you still can't trust hillbillies. All the subtle scares were thrown out the window and made into an 80's slasher that tries to be cool with blood and "shocking" images. I hate Tom Savini. Every movie he's involved with turns into a piece of crap that is more worried about how blood is going to shoot out from a severed head then it is about characters and genuine creepiness.

Oh well, at least we'll always have the first one. I just can't believe Tobe Hooper would do this. If anyone else had made this movie, I would call him a lowlife who is sucking the life from a horror classic. It's sad that that lowlife in this case is the very filmmaker that horror classic.

I was pleasantly surprised by this horror sequel, it's got a better story than the original, you get to know the characters a lot better, there's tons of gore, a dash of humor, and it has some of my favourite songs too. I loved it.

TCM 2 is ridiculously over the top, disturbing, and dementedly hilarious. How can you make the perfect sequel to one of the most horrifying films of all time? Do the exact opposite! And that's what Tobe Hooper did here. Because there's no way anything could touch the original, or... read more even come close. So what did he do? He made the wise choice. He went from serious...to funny. I mean, if you shouldn't try and out do a masterpiece, then why not have fun with a new one? TCM 2 is DARKLY funny. This is humor at it's darkest. It's so vile, so depravedly warped, we can't help laughing at it's insanity. This is NOTHING like the original. Don't plan on getting scared. Not this time. This time around plan on being grossed out. Because this movie is fu*king gory. Blood, flesh, and guts fly everywhere! Tom Savini did a wonderful job on the makeup.

Bill Moseley (who plays Chop Top - in his first major role) creates a new, deranged icon in horror history. His performance is so maniacally fierce and twisted, it'll drive you insane. You'll fall in love with him. You might mimic and quote him with your friends years after seeing this. I know I did. Chop Top OWNS this movie. Another great performance is by Dennis Hopper (who plays Lefty), who's trapped in the Sawyer's hideout known as "The Devil's Playground". Yes he's the hero in the film, but Jesus Christ, he acts just as nutty as the Sawyer family. It's funny how Lefty is in his own world the entire time (most of the film he's sawing through wood and screaming aloud vengeful threats to himself). Lefty seems like a little boy who mostly enjoys his own company while acting out his favorite action flicks. His character is like Indiana Jones, but instead of whips he has two chainsaws by his side. He's at battle with the Sawyers and wants to claim his own victory, with no help from the outside world. He's trapped in a playground from hell, surrounded by dead bodies, and walls covered in gore. Yet he still moves forward and ignores all options of escape. What the fu*k is wrong with this guy? Why is Lefty not taking this more serious? But you know what? If he's not going to take a metal plate-licking, rock-n-roller serial killer and his family serious...then neither am I. Nope. I just laid back taking in all it's absurdities, opened my mind, accepted it's lunacy and laughed my fu*king ass off at this freak show. Because that's what it is. It's a circus of horrors, but one with funny clowns - no matter how evil they are.

Two characters from the original return in this outrageous sequel. Drayton Sawyer, the Cook and Leatherface "Bubba" Sawyer. Leatherface is another great character. In this one he falls in love...with the hostage. I kid you not. He wants to have deep passionate sex with her (he even hints at that by playfully humping his chainsaw). Again, I kid you not. Leatherface is even quite the romantic. He dances with the hostage, and shares dead flesh with her. Awwwww. Bubba's got a girlfriend! Of course the hostage finds him utterly fucking repulsive, as she should. Thank God cause there's no way Leatherface could raise a child. He's pretty gross. Even still, I kind of wanted to hug him and tell him there are other fish in the sea...but he'd probably kill me. That crazy son of a bitch.

This movie even has a great soundtrack. The most memorable scene in the movie is definitely the "bridge" scene. Leatherface (who just loves to dance in this movie) dances on a moving truck, with a corpse, while listening to "No One Lives Forever" by Oingo Boingo. I love that song. Now every time I hear it I think of Leatherface dancing and chopping off heads. Good memories.

Go into TCM 2 with an open mind, because this movie is outrageous. It's so dark it's quite disturbing. It's repulsive at times, extremely gory and very silly. But it all adds up to a fun ride...through "The Devil's Playground".

Although not as great as the first film, TCM 2 is still an enjoyable film to watch. The film has a more comedic laid back feel to it than the first TCM. The film is still very entertaining to watch, and we are introduced to Chop Top, Leatherface's psychotic brother, who he is mar... read morevellously brought to life by Bill Mosely, a phenomenal actor in the horror genre. Dennis Hopper and Caroline Williams are terrific as well, but Hopper's performance in this film is really tongue in cheek almost, I didn't take him to too seriously, and sometimes not at all. Overall The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is a solid sequel, but it doesn't quite live up to the original because of the tongue in cheek horror comedy. I didn't take this film seriously, but I however enjoyed it.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 spits in the face of nearly everything the brilliantly horrifying original stood for, which is odd considering both movies were made by the same director. It's not particularly scary and for me it was filled to the rim with "oh really?" moments. The scor... read moree is horrible and a lot of the lighting looks like it was lifted from Mario Bava movies. I know Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 was supposed to be over the top and my gripes about it completely miss the point (presuming there is one) of the movie, but the first one is just so great and genuinely frightening that to follow it up with something like this is almost blasphemous. In the plus column, Dennis Hopper was hysterically entertaining. The scene where he buys his chainsaws was amazing. Ultimately, if you can forget this movie is a continuation of its predecessor you've got a chance of enjoying it.

While it is not even close to the experience of the first film, it is quite fun and undeniably hilarious. Dennis Hopper played one of the most off center cops, out for revenge on the Sawyers. It is a ridiculous film in nature and is certainly more off of its rocker than the first... read more. It also has a great addition to the cast, Chop Top.

A couple of good scares and some decent make-up from Tom Savini aside, this film is not very good. Dennis Hopper's 'Bring it down' moment has to be one of the worst moments in cinema! Leather face was about as scary as a care bear and the end was painful. I'm a fan of Tobe Hooper... read more but did he loose his voice during this film? Someone say cut for Christ sake! 2 stars purely for the radio station scene and unintentional laughs.

Hopper (as God's right hand sheriff) is the best part of this flick. The grandpa gimmick is done again successfully, and this manic character controlling Leatherface is refreshingly witty and political. But that's where the goodness ends, as this is simply not very scary, being p... read morerimarily set in places other than Leatherface's house and homegrounds.

A revved up demented sequel to the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" with lots of great scenes and dialogue. Gore is plentiful with a hammer bashing, a person being skinned alive, a chainsaw opening up someone's skull, and lots of body sawing. It has a few jump moments, and a superb chai... read morensaw chase through an underground chamber of horrors decorated with christmas lights. The set design is wonderful. We get lots of black humour bordering on the sick. Dennis Hopper appears as "Lefty", who wants revenge for what happened to his nephew Franklin in the first movie. Caroline Williams plays a tough Radio DJ "Stretch" who quickly turns into a shrieking running survivor. The maniac family from the first film appears for one last time, in this bold sequel. I must mention Bill Mosely, who plays "Chop Top", one of the freakiest and dangerous hippy killers I've ever seen.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a horrific realistic, and a genuinely terrifying film. This second is a strange (even stranger than the original) very sick ( a man forces a woman to wear her friends face??) and very budget blown (the appearance of Dennis Hopper).

We have Leath... read moreer Face, Drayton (from the original we new him as old man) and Chop Top who is a new addition to the family who is (although probably the most deranged) a kind of funny and lovable character, he is very similar to the hitchhiker from the original except a Vietnam steel plated and (oddly) pale white skin colour.

A radio DJ (Stretch) gets prank called by two irritating gun ho kids in a car speeding down the motorway, but one of these prank calls just happen to be made at a wrong time as the two are chased by Leather Face in a opposite car and funnily enough kills them by chainsaw and its all been recorded on a live radio station. This makes Stretch closer to Lefty (dennis hopper) who is a family member of Franklyn (weelchair victim) in the original massacre wanting to hunt down the maniacs for revenge. The appearance of this recorded footage brings Lefty closer to catching the maniacs who is now out for Stretch for making the recording. The plot proceeds on to Stretch being held captive in the theme park style underground layer of the maniacs and Lefty roaring through chopping the place down with his chainsaw.

This is higher budget, meaning its got loads more action and the set pieces are even creepier and outstandingly made. The acting is pretty good as this time they had the money to buy proper actors. Although its unrealistic (living in an underground theme park layer filled with over 100 bodies used as props, people being chased in their car by a guy standing on top of his truck with a chainsaw on a bridge, the final battle between Dennis Hopper and Leather Face using chainsaws)its still a cult classic and very well directed. The original is superior but the second instalment is by far not a disappointment, more of a higher budget fun thrill ride with jumps, scares and even some funny parts which are hard not to laugh. The bad parts are the rushed beginning which we don't really know a thing about Lefty or why he's so mad and the fact that Leather Face now has feelings and becomes a little bit puffy at times. Apart from that all this "this is one of the stupidest films ever" nonsense is, quite plainly nonsense

    • Chop-Top: Me and my little brother listen to you every night.
    • TV Commentator: On the afternoon of August 18th, 1973, five young people in a Volkswagen van ran out of gas on a farm road in South Texas. Four of them were never seen again. The next morning the one survivor, Sally Hardesty-Enright, was picked up on a roadside; Blood cloaked and screaming murder. Sally said she had broken out of a window in Hell. The girl babbled a mad tale: a cannibal family in an isolated farmhouse? chain-sawed fingers and bones? her brother, her friends hacked up for barbecue? chairs made out of human skeletons? Then she sank into catatonia. Texas lawmen mounted a month-long manhunt, but could not locate the macabre farmhouse. They could find no killers and no victims. No facts; no crime. Officially, on the records, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre never happened. But during the last 13 years, over and over again reports of bizarre, grisly chainsaw mass-murders have persisted all across the state of Texas. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has not stopped. It haunts Texas. It seems to have no end.
