One of the most infamous horror films of the 1970s is revisited in this remake produced by action-spectacle maven Michael Bay. In the summer of 1973, four teenagers -- Erin (Jessica Biel), Morgan (Jon... read more read more...athan Tucker), Kemper (Eric Balfour), and Andy (Mike Vogel) -- are driving through Texas on a road trip when they pick up a hitchhiker, Pepper (Erica Leerhsen), who is on her way to Mexico to score some dope. With Pepper adding to the party atmosphere, the other four decide to join her, but as they're passing through a small town in Travis County, they see a bloody and distraught girl (Lauren German) wandering by the side of the road, and after stopping to help her, they realize she's been involved in something horribly traumatic. As the kids try to help the girl piece together the story of what happened, they find themselves drawn into the web of a murderous family of subnormal cannibals. Inspired -- like the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs, and Deranged -- by the crimes of Wisconsin multiple murderer Ed Gein, this remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre also features narration by John Larroquette, who narrated the original film (it was his first screen credit), as well as supporting performances by R. Lee Ermey, Andrew Prine, and Andrew Bryniarski. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Michael Bay's lot began their remake reign of "terror" with this completely unnecessary movie that I just stared at with complete weariness and annoyance. It's got more gore and aggresiveness in it than the 70's cult classic and what Bay doesn't realise is that blood and guts is ... read morenot what made the original film absoultely terrifying. All of his horror remakes generally follow this formula. That it's primarily repulsive deaths that made his reimagining's inspirations scary. It's not. I have no problem with him remaking good horror films if they add something to the blender that works and also dont strip them entirely of their pride by doing something different for the better. Unfortunately, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre had it's skin ripped off by Michael Bay.

Pepper: It just seems so wrong.
Sheriff Hoyt: Don't give me any crap, young lady. Goddamn it, I got just as much respect for a dead body as anybody around here.

"What you know about fear... doesn't even come close."

For a remake of a horror classic, The Texas Chainsaw Massacr... read moree isn't a complete piece of shit. Sure it makes many mistakes along the way. I understand that changes have to be made when remaking a movie, but a lot of what made the original so effective was lost in translation here. First off, the hitchhiker scene in this remake was stupid and I would have stuck with something much simpler like the original. After the initial setup the movie starts to get really silly, especially when we are introduced to the sheriff.

We get basically the same start from the original here. Five friends, although one of them is not in a wheelchair, are cruising around in a van. Instead of the cool reason why from the original, checking on a grandparents dead body at a graveyard, we get five friends on their way to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert. I don't know why this line in the movie pissed me off more than anything, but Jessica Biel's character says, "I hope they play Free Bird." It's fucking Lynyrd Skynyrd, of course their going to play Free Bird, but I digress. They pick up a hitchhiker and that's where the movie completely turns from the original.

Leatherface is bigger, but not as scary; most likely because the scenes aren't done as well and there is a much less talented director at the helm here. I do like that the movie didn't go over the top in the gore department. There was more than the original, but the original had virtually none. Like all remakes, when you love the original, it's going to be slightly disappointing. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy it a little. Jessica Biel isn't a bad choice for the leading lady. I enjoyed watching her run around in a tight tank top. The rest of the cast wasn't too bad either. There's been much worse acting in recent horror films.

Although this does have some annoying plot points, that's to be expected. It is still a fairly competent and respectable remake. But come on it really had no chance at topping the original in the scare or quality department. It did do an admirable job in trying and it also helped a lot of people revisit or watch for the first time, the original. That's enough in my book.

As a fan of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I was a little edgy at watching this film. I thought it be just another remake. It is, and it isn't. The film manages to take Tobe Hooper's original, twi9sted vision, and make it darker, more evil. However I will always be a fan o... read moref the original, nothing will beat Tobe Hooper's classic film. This remake is a decent one at best, and it does deliver some disgusting, twisted moments that may appeal to hardened horror fans. The acting displayed on screen is decent at best, and considering the semi decent cast involved in this project, this isn't too bad. Obviously the best performances of the film are that of legendary actor, R. Lee Ermey and Andrew Bryniarski. As far as remakes are concerned, Texas Chainsaw Massacre isn't too bad. But its nothing compared to the original. This remake is more blood and gore than the original while the original was more atmospheric in nature; this remake is more straight forward gore effects to create the shock value. I feel it cheapens the film slightly, as I'm more a fan of old school horror and I feel that cutting corners with jump scares doesn't work most of the time. This film is decent for what it is, just don't expect anything great from this remake, as it is fairly bland; and doesn't do anything really new with the familiar formula.

I'm really bad when it comes to horror films. They can be completely awful and I'll still shit myself. I don't think this was the worst horror film I've ever seen, it wasn't the best either. But, it gave me a good scare and that's what horror films intend on doing so it worked.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I liked the remake. It's not the original, but it's probably the best horror remake thus far (probably).

This movie is retarded. It's just a bunch of dumbass teenagers who you dont care about acting stupid for the whole movie. I was so bored the whole movie and was just waiting to be over. A perfect comeback in an otherwise average series. This film brings back horror that was present in many of the old classic movies, and this film does it with style. Scary, Brutal and Fun!

As a slasher movie this was a fair bit better to many I have seen, it still has all the typical coryness of this style of film, but perhaps the acting (although not great) was a little better, maybe helped along by it?s named star; Jessica Biel. Admittedly there were a few tense... read more ?chase? moments, but of course a lot of predictability.

As a remake of a movie, it?s not completely the same set up, but mostly similar to the original. I was disappointed at the time when watching the original as I?d had high expectations from all the hype, which lessened my expectations for this one, but found it watchable

This doesn't come CLOSE to being as good as the original, and I never expected that it would. BUT, this is still a great film - for different reasons. It's a more fun and entertaining experience than it is a horrifying shocker. I loved the remake (yes, I am not a hater on horror ... read moreremakes). The way I see it, the more the merrier. Yes the originals are better, but I still find most remakes to be quite enjoyable, and a good way to kill 2 hours. I don't mind seeing stupid teens, running around half naked, getting hacked into little pieces. I don't care if it's slightly unoriginal. I'm a horror fan for Christ sakes. I find any of this stuff to be fun, wild entertainment. It's just the way I am, it's in my blood, I can't explain it. So I'm definitely not one to complain about remakes. Make 20 remakes on the same film for all I care. It's not going to hurt the original is it? And I'm certainly not going to turn down 2 hours of blood, guts, and T&A. And for the people who are blaming the remakes...you should really be blaming the directors instead. Any good director could make a good remake. The problem is we're getting sucky directors to remake them.

Anyways the TCM remake is really good. The sheriff is downright hilarious, the violence is pretty solid, and the cinematography is sort of chilling. Good direction and great performances. TCM (2003) is a twisted, highly entertaining thrill ride. I really enjoyed this.

You realize how hard this is on me, to have to tell you what a superb job director Marcus Nispel has done re-creating, yet also revising, 1974's grisly, gristly, protein-centric masterpiece.
