    Amazing movie. Never boring.

It's a story of struggle for survival of a pilot & an ill Inuit girl as they get stuck in the Arctic tundra after their plane almost crashes down.

If that sounds appealing to you, go for it. Somehow, it appealed to me a bit. But more than its plot, IMDb reviews & rating encourag... read moreed me more to go for it. Eventually, I went for it & ended up being disappointed. For me, it was too dry & too plain to be effective.

I don't know; if you're too insightful & stuffs like "ooh see, how they're struggling for their survival; ooh, see how they're trying to interact & understand each other despite of knowing too little of each other's languages; wow, what a wonderful scenery," etc. touch your senses, you might wanna give it a go.

    Simple yet Powerful.
A story of survival, and of how two entirely different individuals come together and form a relation that transcends all the differences between them.

The Snow Walker: This film is based on a short story written by Farley Mowat. Its Directed by Charles M Smith. Set in 1952 Barry Pepper plays the part of a cocky pilot know as Charlie Halliday. His job is to ferry cargo, At one stop he picks up a Very Sick Inuit Women Named Kanaa... read morelaq, who is played by the beautiful Annabella Piugattuk. His job is to take here to Yellow Knife for treatment as he made a deal with an elder and received two large ivory tusk. On the flight back Charlie deviates from his flight plan and of course the plane goes down leaving the two stranded. Charlie being hard headed wants to take charge an find help on his own, leaving the Inuit women behind, but it is the Inuit women who finds Charlie near death and rescues him, the two form a close bind. A very sad ending that I will leave at that. I give it 4 stars, you get it and watch it as its a good Family Story.

Very disappointing movie. I had hopes for the premiss--bush pilot carrying Eskimo girl to Yellowknife for medical treatment crashes in tundra, and must rely on her to survive. But filmmaker Charles Martin Smith really only uses that as a pretext to tell a moralistic tale the Mu... read morelticultural Affairs Council would applaud (they perhaps funded the film). Everything's so heavy-handed about getting across this message I was about to pull my hair out. The Globe & Mail reviewer calls it a snapshot of contemporary Canadiana. He's right! Canada's sooooo politically correct nowadays I can just see this propaganda piece being inflicted on 6th grade schoolkids nationwide every year. (I schooled in Canada, F.Y.I.). The white bush pilot is not only an abrasive jerk, he's one of the most foolish characters ever captured on film. I was hoping he'd die so he doesn't propagate his genetic line. The Eskimo girl--excuse me, INUIT!!--is of course inhumanly perfect. Except that she also practically dooms them with her insistence they bury a perfectly good rifle and ammo with a dead airman "so he can use it in the next life." There is no next life where you'll need a this-life gun, lady. Your primitive religion's crap if you take it that seriously. And as one user reviewer puts it, don't expect much of an ending--just experience the relief of it being over at last.

I liked it, it is perhaps a little predictable once the setup is established but it has a nice feel. It makes you think about man and his relationship to the wild, yes humanity has conquered nature (for now) and when prepared and organized there is very little we as a group can'... read moret accomplish. However, there are places (or were places in this case as the story takes place in the 50's) where if you are isolated you have to go back to an earlier time and rely less on gadgets and more on your wits.
A shame I haven't seen Ms. Piugattuk in more movies she has good screen charisma in this her first role.

    An interesting film.

Quite an enjoyable movie. Didn't expect much of it at first but it became very palatable. Not very common with straight to DVD films. I like Annabella Piugattuk's acting and presence she was a good choice for the role, unfortunatelly there's not much of her acting to go around (o... read morenly a 2005 mini series somewhere in the vast world of forgotten TV).

Must add that the cinematography is really good here.

Constant interruptions prevent the story from building to a satisfying emotional pitch, leaving the film, like the characters, to trudge circuitously across that vast frozen tundra.
