Amateurishly directed, cheesy, repetitive and badly written. I just wish they would stop making these kind of derivative, uninspired fantasy flicks. Because it's at a point now where we get too much quantity and far too little quality.

January 13, 2010fb733768972It was a decent movie 3 years ago! But now that I think about it, it is nothing short of a low budget kids film!

Wow, another fantasy film with the same idea as all the rest. This is so much a cross of 'Harry Potter' 'LOTR' 'Narnia' etc.. it looks like all the rest yet poorly and the characters are all the same. Chris Eccelston as the main baddie is terrible and not threatening atall and th... read more

Not a bad fantasy adventure of a seemingly typical teenager is a chosen warrior destined to restore the delicate earthly balance between Light and Dark. The special effects, casting and screenplay are awful.

I first thought this film would be terrible. As it went along it was a pleasant surprise. One scene in particular stood out. A Matrix-like interrogation that was wonderfully lit and edited creating a promise of creepier things to come. Unfortunately it settled into being a run of... read more

This movie had potential but turned out not using it.
Positives: It had a possible good story that could of really been turned into something and will keep most people interested - if not liking the film, at least in actually watching it fully and giving it a real chance.

i watched this at the cinema yesterday and really enjoyed it though the ending was a bit cheesy because wouldnt you be suspicious if you saw two of your brother so the end was its downfall but i thought it was really good and funny moments as well worth a watch
Critic Reviews
A movie that should've been made shortly after its source material -- Susan Cooper's Newbery winner -- debuted in 1973. As is, it feels entirely too generic to work today. Full Review
The acting is mediocre, the story rambles, the special effects -- average at best.
Poor writing and production values like these bring no light to Cooper's novel -- or the audience. Full Review
Cooper presented this rather basic good/evil mythos in more low-key, atmospheric form than the film allows, leaving thesps (particularly McShane) having to poker-face their way through lines like, 'Th... Full Review
The movie ultimately emerges as a lackluster tale of teenage empowerment and doesn't fully conjure the requisite sense of magical escape necessary to truly captivate and immerse us in the tale. Full Review
Ludwig, a relative unknown with some TV and film experience, is awfully cute, but lacks the needed gravitas and charm to turn Will into more than a caricature. Full Review
The Seeker feels passé and lacks a charismatic lead. Too bad Daniel Radcliffe is an only child.
Given superpowers, Will does approximately nothing with them (he can command fire, but uses it mainly to throw cool supertantrums). He's as passive as a dead mackerel. Full Review
A reasonable choice for bored tweens -- as long as they don't demand too much magic from their movies. Full Review
