May 24, 2012fb842095532well, Fraser's character seems like a talented fun-loving ball player - until he has a breakdown in the 2nd half.

Not near as funny as it could have been, Albert Brooks has done a lot better. It's just not that funny, and it's very predictable. At times it is really stupid. Diane Wiest is the only person that is good in the cast. It's a pointless film that does nothing for the stars.

"THE SCOUT is the best comedy-fantasy about baseball ever made..." - the vhs cover.
REALLY? I mean...the competition is just SO ENORMOUS for that category -

A movie like one of those fantasies you'd have as a kid playing in your yard. "81 pitches! All Strikes! The Yankees win!" VERY far-fetched but pretty funny.

this movie was surprisingly refreshing. It' was nice to see no plot twists and just a good overall story.

The Scout was directed by Michael Ritchie and written by Mr. Brooks and Monica Johnson from a script written by Andrew Bergman years ago. It's probably not all that valuable to wonder how so many tale... Full Review
Rarely does a movie start high and go downhill so fast. It's as if the filmmakers progressively lost their nerve with every additional scene. Full Review
A genuine -- and immensely enjoyable -- curiosity. Full Review
It's been a long time since there's been a good baseball movie. The Scout makes you wonder if there's ever going to be one again. Full Review
An amusing comic premise, mixing baseball and psychiatry, gets lost along the way in a film that displays much evidence of post-production tampering. Full Review
Brooks is fun, nothing else in the movie is.
This is the laziest piece of work in the fall big-screen lineup so far.
Having sat through many a Fraser film, I am constantly amazed that there is nothing this boy can't do. Well, except act his way out of a paper bag. Full Review
