Beck (The Rock) is a "retrieval specialist" in hock to a powerful and not particularly nice gentleman named Walker (William Lucking). Beck is anxious to retire from his dangerous work and open a small... read more read more... restaurant. Walker tells Beck he'll be free and clear with enough cash to fulfill his dream if he does one more job. He sends Beck into the Brazilian rainforest to bring back his wayward son, Travis (Seann William Scott). Travis is down there looking for a legendary idol, El Gato Diablo, which he could sell for millions if he found it. A pretty local, Mariana (Rosario Dawson), offers Travis the use of her boat in exchange for a cut of the take on the statue. But the powerful Hatcher (Christopher Walken) owns the area's huge mine, where locals work for slave wages, and feels that anything found in the area is his property. He refuses to let Beck take Travis back to the U.S. until the statue is in his hands. Using his estimable fighting prowess (he doesn't like guns), Beck manages to get Travis out of town, but Travis doesn't want to go home, and he ends up getting them stranded in the jungle, where they're confronted with horny monkeys and angry guerrillas. To make matters worse, Hatcher and his thugs are hot on their trail, and Mariana turns out to have her own motives for getting involved. The Rundown, the second film directed by actor Peter Berg (Very Bad Things), features a brief, uncredited cameo by Arnold Schwarzenegger. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

It's so nice when you can still have movies like this come out. This is such a well rounded story with great characters, beautiful cinematography and a little bit of comedy thrown in. The Rock shows again how awesome a human being he is with his physical force and cooking skills,... read more not to mention a great sense of humor. Seann William Scott plays really well off of him and they make for such a great team. This also manages to be a great action/adventure movie without being over the top or too crude for some people, it's truly one of the most accessible movies of its kind.

The Rundown is a good little action comedy film. Though flawed at times, and somewhat confusing in it's action sequences, this film is quite enjoyable, and a lot of fun. Christopher Walken delivers yet a great performance. The Rundown is a good mix of action and comedy, and The ... read moreRock and Sean William Scott deliver good comedic performances. The film has well thought out action sequences, and Walken is delightfully evil. This film though good, is slightly overrated. I felt that the film was missing something to make this film really special. But for what it is, The Rundown is a pleasant time waster. This one film that you can watch and have a good time. There's plenty of laughs and action here to please anyone who's looking for a good action comedy film. However, for me this is a film that requires repeat viewings to really enjoy it. No matter what your stance is on the film afterwards, you will be entertained nonetheless.

Beck: I need you to make a choice for me.
    Travis: What choice?
Beck: Option A or Option B. Option A: we walk out of here nice and easy, we go back to the airstrip, and then we begin our long journey back to Los Angeles. There'll be no bruises, no broken bones, and no problems. ... read more
    Travis: What's in Los Angeles?
    Beck: Your father.
    Travis: What's Option B?
Beck: Pretty much the opposite of A. But I wouldn't recommend that one.

A quality action comedy, featuring the Rock, with charisma to spare, Seann William Scott being funny, Rosario Dawson being hot, and Christopher Walken being Walken.

The Rock stars as Beck, a bounty hunter looking to get out of the business and start his own restaurant, is given his chance, provided he can complete one last job. Beck must travel to a town in the Amazon to locate a mobster's son, Travis played by Scott. Travis is actually a treasure hunter, who may have found his payday, but now a few things stand in his way. The no nonsense logic from Beck, who is making Travis head back to the plane home, the local rebel leader, played by Dawson, who is leading the rebels against the oppressive mining town operator, played by Christopher Walken.

Hatcher: I feel like a little boy who's lost his first tooth, put it under his pillow, waiting for the tooth-fairy to come. Only two evil burglars have crept in my window, and snatched it, before she could get here... Wait a second, do you understand the CONCEPT of the tooth-fairy? Explain it to them... Wait. She takes the god damned thing, and gives you a quarter. They've got my tooth. I want it back.

The movie essentially becomes a buddy action comedy involving Beck and Travis' journey through the jungle, while being pursued by Walken and his men. As the two move through the jungle, they encounter some surprises along the way, but one thing is for sure, The Rock will always get his man.

This movie is just a lot of fun. Director Peter Berg keeps the film moving at an energetic pace, with some little stylistic flourishes throughout, including flashy camera moves and a lot of slo mo. The action is cool throughout, with the Rock certainly showing off his abilities. His stance against guns makes for some interesting fisticuffs as well.

Seann William Scott is quite good here as well, providing the laughs needed and showing obvious chemistry with the Rock. Of course Walken is on his game, providing a number of one liners, Walken style devliery of all his lines, and a sinister undercurrent that works for his villain character.

A fun film with plenty of good elements that make it enjoyable.

    Hatcher: Don't rock the boat.

The film vacillates between balmy stabs at humor and milking its sodden social conscience. Meanwhile the script devolves into people yelling 'Shut up!' at each other.

A brisk, good- hearted but predictable and uninspired -- not to mention bone-crunchingly violent -- action comedy.
