This was better than i expected. Decent ride. Some gorey parts on the unrated version may be a bit too much for some.

The Ruins is an interesting little horror flick. The premise is very good, unfortunately it ends up being a decent horror flick. Throughout the years, there has been many horror films dealing with nature, The Ruins is yet another film in this genre of horror and instead of killer... read more

A tropical Mexican vacation goes horribly wrong ... okay, maybe not exactly horror-bly, as tourists visit an isolated spot only to be hunted by ... a killer plant. You can wait for it, though some moments of tension are achieved.

A tense horror film that is well-paced and relies on a good cast, turning a rather silly premise into something surprisingly terrifying. It is only a shame that it ends on such an unsatisfying conclusion (I prefer the alternative ending).

I thought the Ruins was pretty good to be honest. The actors ain't great but in their defence a couple of them stepped up to the challenge when the films conclusion got going. I think it's casting is probably the only problem I had with it though - The idea itself is both origina... read more

Now the Ruins doesn't have it's fair share of flaws, but what it does it does well. Darius Khondji's is beautiful and the film makes a smart choice by making it about what the characters do to each other rather than about scary plants.

Super, super gory. I liked it, but it did have a stupid plot.
Killer plants.....really?
The acting was good, characters were stupid and annoying, even before they were stuck on the ruins.
It was a pretty good movie, I guess. I don't really have much to say about it. -

Moral of the story: never visit an out-of-the-way Mexican ruin covered by vines and blood-red flowers that make a squeaking sound. Full Review
The Ruins does what a good psychological horror movie should do: rely on tension rather than gore to achieve its aims. Full Review
The usual gore-and-gristle fare, but this one serves it up with a tad more suggestiveness and smarts. Full Review
More disgusting than scary, The Ruins is the latest in a long line of horror films about upper-middle-class travelers being terrorized in unfamiliar environments.
The Ruins is lumpish, static, and obvious. It's a gringos-go-home cautionary fright flick done in the spirit of a cheap '50s horror movie, except that it leaves you longing for the competence of grade... Full Review
A surprisingly effective little horror nightmare. Full Review
While not as silly as it sounds, it nevertheless is silly (as are most horror films), and while certainly different, the payoff isn't there.
When you've got cute young tourists, an exotic locale (well, sort of: Mexico), ancient Mayan hoodoo and surly peasants with machetes, you expect a bit more than The Ruins gives you, which is: killer p... Full Review
Squabbling among the skin-deep characters doesn't induce much sympathy, though thesps do their best. Full Review
