A benevolent, friendly, selfless man who greets everyone with a disarming "Hi" discovers that you can't trust anyone after getting engaged to a manipulative, self-serving siren who seduces his best fr... read more read more...iend and destroys his life in The Room. Johnny (writer/director Tommy Wiseau) has everything a man could ever want: great friends, a good job, and a gorgeous fiancée named Lisa (Juliette Danielle). But Lisa's innocent act masks the fact that she's looking to bring Johnny down, and her manipulations are tearing Johnny apart. As Lisa informs her cancer-ridden mother, Claudette (Carolyn Minnott), that Johnny hit her (he did not hit her, that is bull$&*t, he did not), Johnny's best friend, Mark (Greg Sestero), finds his resistance to Lisa's seductive charms weakening. Meanwhile, local orphan Denny (Philip Haldiman) looks up to Johnny, and needs the older man's help after the teen rips off a drug dealer. What kind of drugs? It doesn't matter. Then guys play football in tuxedos, because you can play football anywhere. Upon release in Los Angeles, The Room began attracting a small crowd of devoted cult followers who hailed it as the next Rocky Horror Picture Show, talking back to the screen and acting out scenes as the softcore, melodramatic train wreck of a film derails up on the big screen. In time, word of The Room's hopelessly incompetent, unintentionally hilarious charms began to spread, and screenings started to to crop up from coast to coast. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

My God, the planets really aligned for something this bad to have happened. Go watch it and be amazed. Truly one of the funniest films one can watch, for almost every single wrong reason.

The Room is a bona fide example of how NOT to make a movie. Tommy Wiseau writes, stars, directs, and gets it ALL WRONG. When viewing this rubbish, it is NOT watching a movie, it is watching 100 minutes of life slowly wasting away.

From the first minute to minute 100, t

... read morehis monstrosity is one debacle after another. Whether it be EVERY one of the unlikable characters or the petty excuse of dialogue that sounds like a conversation between a bunch of elementary school kids, The Room deserves to be locked in a room of its own and then blown up with an atomic bomb.

The multiple "love scenes" look to spice things up and detract from the rest of the hogwash that is going on, but they are extensively nauseating and a complete waste of time.

Tommy Wiseau is revolting all around. His line delivery, and accent, is just as horrible as the amateurish dialogue. The ending never comes too soon when he, or anyone else in this crap-fest, is on screen. In other words, this is 100 minutes too long.

A black comedy this is not. The Room is not made to be funny and also a total disgrace to football. It is, simply put, a terrible mistake that deserves its bucket loads of negative criticism.

One of the greatest and most misunderstood films of the Twenty-First century, a film with the passion of Tenneesse Williams, Tommy Wiseau's epic drama "The Room" delivers on every level.

Never have I had to literally stop viewing a film because it made me furiously angry. Not only did this film accomplish that unprecedented feat, but I also laughed until I cried, and raged with phrases such as "Come on!" and "You are the stupidest person alive". The only great th... read moreing about this abomination of a "motion picture" is that it comes in handy when looking for a new drinking game: drink every time someone says "I don't care", drink every time Lisa's mother storms off, drink during the more idiotic scenes, like Denny being on drugs, which is never explained nor referenced again, the four sex scenes, two of which are copied tape from an already existing scene seconds before, or some of the more famous lines. Strange facts concerning this film: it took 8 million dollars to make, was originally a 600 page book, and altogether has grossed 300 million worldwide. It's shown in some theaters once a month, and in Europe, every day.

If you haven't seen this yet or don't know the hideousness of this film, watch this ingenious review.

To put this film in the most simple of ways is to say that this film is the âTroll 2â? of the next Generation. I mean, my God. This film has really no redeeming factor what so ever. But, strangely enough, I do recommend this film. Okay, I am going to need to explain myself. First... read more, I am going to have to go with the reasons why this film is terrible. In terms of direction, this film is pitiful. First time writer, director, producer, executive producer (yes, you read that right), and actor Tommy Wiseau does a terrible job with this film. Everything from the odd choices made to the script, the passing, the Green Screen on the roof top, to even his acting is beyond this universe of terribleness. In fact, here is an example of the script. And yes, you are reading this right:

(Johnny walks into flower shop and goes to the counter)
    JOHNNY: Hi
    CLERK: Can I help you?
    (Johnny removes his sunglasses)
JOHNNY: Yes, can I have a dozen Red Roses, please?
(He stares at the Clerk for a few seconds)
CLERK: Oh, hi Johnny. I did not know it was you.
(Clerk does behind the counter to get his roses)
JOHNNY: That is me. How much is it?
CLERK: It will be eighteen doll-
(Johnny throws down the money, grabbing the flowers, and pets the dog that is on the counter)
JOHNNY: Here you go. Keep the Change. Hello Doggie. Bye.
(Johnny turns and walks out of the shop)
CLERK: You are my favorite customer.
    JOHNNY: Thanks a lot. Bye.
    CLERK: Bye-bye

Now, that is an entire sample of the God awful script. If you thought that was terrible, just watch how the scene is played out. Acting, for this whole film, is even worse. Every actor in this film has no experience at all except for one or two very small roles and their â~talentâ(TM) (if that is even the right word) proves this. They do not give any real emotions, over exaggerate everything, and to top it all off, makes things beyond extraordinarily bad. The best example of this is when Johnny yells: âYou are tearing me apart, Lisa!â?. The score to this film sounds like it was written for a student film with the over simple composing of the main title theme. The rest of the music for the film comes from unknown R&B singers that disgrace the genre more then celebrate the film. Best example: Kitra Williams âYou Are My Roseâ?. The only other part I feel the need to point out is the editing. This films has some of the worst editing of any film I have ever seen or even, for that matter, reviewed on here. The best example of that would be the twenty minutes of sex scenes in this film. If you think it takes forever for a pornographic film to get their sex scenes over with, this is about a good four times longer per each scene. Plus, how they were shot just ponders the mind. I will not go into detail with this, but I will say that if you watch the first scene, watch how they screw each other. You will notice something⦠not right. Okay, all of the above is all the problems with this film. Now, with that alone, this film is rotten and just terrible. But, at the same time, it is awesome. Now, when this film had itâ(TM)s premier back in 2003, it was promoted as being a serious drama. But, due to the reaction of the audience, Tommy Wiseau decided to label the film as a dark comedy instead. As a dark comedy, all of the problems work in making this the ultimate dark comedy. That is the main thing about this film: It is unintentionally funny. Everything from shouting lines at the film to throwing plastic spoons during some certain scenes, this film is a riot if you watch it as a dark comedy. But, that factor mostly works if you are in a theatre with a crowd of people. So, this film suffers from the âThe Rocky Horror Picture Show Syndromeâ?. What is this you ask? It is when you take a movie that is terrible, put it in a crowded theatre, it becomes beyond better for then you become a part of the film. Overall, this is a film that needs to be watched, examined, and discussed to fully try to capture why Wiseau made the movie the way it did. But, I would not recommend the film unless you love bad films.

Some movies aren't just movies. They're an experience. The Room is one of those movies. Yes, it's horrendous, a sure fire contender for one of the worst movies ever made. But it's a total hoot to laugh at.
If you live in a city, search to see if there's a theatre playing th... read moreis movie. In my home city of Toronto, The Room plays once a month at a special late night screening. It sells out all the time. People come to watch and laugh at the film. Screenings like this happen all over North America, and there are specific jokes that are common knowledge amongst the fans, like bringing wooden spoons and throwing them in the air every time cutlery appears on screen.
Yes, The Room is filmmaking at its worst. And sometimes, that in itself is a cause for celebration.

This movie is unbearably bad! I do enjoy laughing at how bad the acting is, however, nothing is salvageable from this disaster of a film. I could not believe what I was watching, but it was amusing. Whatever Tommy Wiseau was thinking, he was an idiot!

Full of memorable lines for all the wrong reasons. Legitimately the worst movie ever released and the whole cast knows it, it's hysterical. Laughed the whole movie but by the end my head was aching due to the suck.
  • December 31, 2009
Billed as a 'dark comedy', I feel relatively safe in saying that the laughs are purely unintentional. The true value of this 'film' is that it gets steadily worse as it goes along, which actually makes it better.
