Watched half of this on the plane. Character and plot development were both hazy, annoying, pretentious and unconvincing. The best thing I got out of this was watching Josh Duhamel be sexy for an hour and adding the sultry Bedouin Soundclash song, "Brutal Hearts" to my library.

It's an all-star cast crammed into a movie that should've never made it off of the pages of the book and onto the silver screen.

While The Romantics might not be for everyone, I thought it was great. In a lot of ways it reminds me of a generational movie, but it doesn't really commit to one specific goal. For being a completely performance and character driven movie, it is really well put together and defi... read morenitely has a great look. It takes people that we all know or were at some point, making them extremely relatable. There's a nice ensemble here and everyone gets moments to shine; not being focused on one character too much. While this acts an excerpt of these characters' lives, we get a large sense of where they've been and where they're going. This doesn't have the answers, but raises so many important questions for the time period and age group. Katie Holmes, Josh Duhmal, Malin Akerman and practically everyone else give great performances here that are evident even in their shortened time on screen. For Galt Niederhoffer being primarily a writer, she does an amazing job as a first time director.

I found there to be a lot to like in "The Romantics." This ensemble drama features a great cast (Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel, Anna Paquin, Adam Brody, Malin Akerman, Jeremy Strong, Rebecca Lawernce, Diana Agron, Candice Bergen) who convey a great chemistry. The scenes where they a... read morere all together are quite remarkable. Rarely have I seen such effortless camaraderie in a cast this large. The writing is snappy, realistic, and emotional. I also have a thing for movies that take place during one day, and this one uses that format in interesting ways. "The Romantics" is breezy and involving and easy to get lost in. For me, I really enjoyed this movie about love and friendship and how cockeyed life can truly be.

Promising movie with some good young actors but failed at everything else including a decent story and an harsh ending. The movie at times seems childish and immature and doesn't quite move you or capture your attention.

But things don't go swimmingly, mainly because of one thing that Lila and her maid of honor, Laura, have in common - Tom, the groom. Laura and Tom were an item before Lila came along and nobody seems able to forget that. With very few successful marriages to look up to, and friends that she's not sure she can trust, will Lila be able to go through with the wedding?

Truly such a waste of potential, knowing that they have a list of everybody's favorite actor and actress.. Name it : Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel, Anna Paquin, Adam Brody, Malin Akerman, Dianna Agron, and Elijah Wood, but what I saw for about 90 minutes truly a waste.. Overall, great cast + lousy story = pretty bad movie...

Cast: Katie Holmes, Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Jeremy Strong, Candice Bergen, Adam Brody, Elijah Wood, Dianna Agron, Rebecca Lawrence

Summary: Sexcapades and lots of laughter ensue when a group of college friends reunites for the... read more wedding of Lila (Anna Paquin) and Tom (Josh Duhamel) -- and an old rivalry resurges between Lila and her maid of honor, Laura (Katie Holmes), who still holds a torch for the groom.

My Thoughts: "The film had a great cast to work with, but unfortunately it had a crappy screenplay/director. You get thrown into the middle of these character's lives with about one fourth of a background on these character's being told. Then you get a bit interested and you find some of the character's likeable and humorous, but then here comes the big moment of the film and it just ends. Really? That's it? It's like reading a book and then coming to the last chapter to find it has been torn out. Left me completely unsatisfied and frankly, annoyed."

The only good qualities about this movie were the excellent cast and the amazing soundtrack. It was quirky in that things happen in this movie that don't normally happen to average people. The song that played while the bride walked down the aisle was a sort of an American Bandst... read moreand song you might hear at a pro-football game complete cheerleaders dancing and heavy on the bass drum and stare. There was a beautiful song that played when the groom cheated on his fiance the night before the wedding (Bedouin Soundclash's song, "Brutal Hearts") which I added to my collection as soon as the movie was over. The conclusion is open-ended and I don't like that about movies... I like all loose strings tied. ABSOLUTELY EVERYBODY cheated on their husband/fiance in this movie and no one seemed to care, either. It was annoying. That doesn't happen in real life. In real life, people get upset. It would have only got one star for the storyline but I give it an extra half a star for the good music and performances.

The cast was pretty entertaining and I appreciated the against-the-grain emotions involved in the film, but the ending was anti-climatic and none of the film really held any moral or direction.

Yeah, not real good....kind of a bland film not much really ever happened.

What ensues is a couple of days of confession and mild debauchery. It's all sketchy and banal. Full Review

It's possible that Niederhoffer was too close to her novel to stand back from its excesses. She's made a seriously self-indulgent movie about self-indulgent people. Full Review
