The Recruit is a film that showcases an interesting idea, but simply doesn't quite get there. It's a great shame because this film could have been something great, unfortunately it falls flat after 45 minutes in, and the plot seems to stop dead in its tracks. The recruit could ha... read more

'The Recruit' is a nasty little thriller whose twists and turns keep you guessing until the end, even if its obvious who the real antagonist is. The plot is a bit contrived and the performances aren't spectacular, but the movie delivers cool, swift entertainment. It's not incredi... read more

Same old CIA crap. I was expecting a thriller, if not a suspense, but this was outright predictable (lacks even a single unexpected twist) with a rotten presentation. Al Pacino's star power didn't make it any better. He was mediocre (as was the movie).

It was hard to believe that Colin Farrell was putting on an accent in this film, the accent seems to come second nature to him now. A smooth, Action Thriller, which glimpses into the presumed training techniques within the CIA.

While the plot is a little predictable and weak, Al Pacino and Colin Farrell make this an extremely fun movie. The acting is just so good that it almost balances out the mediocre nature of it. It's worth watching at least once, but is a failure in being an effective spy thriller.

This film has its moments but it is basically a ?Frankenstein film? put together from parts of other, superior war films.

A bit like the rookie, Chris is the new CIA recruit put through his paces by his mentor (Al) to find a mole in the agency. Who can he trust? Good performances.

Al Pacino has gone downhill in recent years (10 of them at least) and this predictable, drawn-out mess is a good example of why. The only bright spot in this thing is the acting of Colin Farrell, who doesn't phone in a performance here. He's very good in it. What a waste of talent.

The Recruit weighs in like a porous brick of recycled polypropylene. Full Review
I liked all those set pieces where they set up these elaborate schemes, and you're not sure who the good guy is, and the bad guy. Full Review
A conjurer's trick that delights for about an hour, then spirals into idiocy. Full Review
A compelling, if throwaway, drama.
It's nothing but style and noise, threadbare of content, empty of ideas.
The Recruit manages to be almost utterly without innovation apart from its heroic determination to make matinee idol material out of a spy agency that pioneered the process of extra-legal bureaucratic... Full Review
Unfolds more like a 100-minute game of Gotcha! than a conventional spy drama, and, depending on your tolerance for such things, this will either thrill or bore you. Full Review
The Recruit falters after it leaves the Farm, throwing in unbelievable plot devices and losing its high-wire tension. Full Review
