The Razor's Edge, Bill Murray's first attempt at a serious dramatic role, was received with less than stellar reviews at the time of it's release, but it set a precedent he would follow the rest of his career. Based on the novel by W. Somerset Maugham, the script was written by ... read more

Bill Murray's very first dramatic role is affable and quite moving, especially in the heartbreaking epilogue, when he talks about the rewards of living a good life, and then we see him, in a deeply poetic moment, climbing up the montmartre stairs, metaphorically continuing his jo... read more

Sweet and sprawling, this film will let any one who wonders discover how it was that Bill Murray became so entrenched in the hearts of so many people. . . Nice movie nut not great. Worth it to watch him play!

An unusual movie for Bill Murray where he's playing a dramatic lead. The biggest problem of the movie is that the first 3/4 feels rushed and it's more of an outline rather than a story development, with the chemistry between the characters lost in the shuffle. Thankfully it final... read more

Wow was this random or what? I love Murray though so of course I'd enjoy it. The story line was decent, I dont know if this counts as a romance or not but "shrugs" it was fair enough.

Critic Reviews
Dismal misfire by Murray trying early on for drama accolades
Sincere try, but even with censorship issues, the 1946 version was better.
The Razor's Edge may be a truncated and somewhat episodic adaptation, but it's certainly compelling enough to keep you involved for a solid two hours. Full Review
Murray provides an interesting performance; the movie grows on you.
Were it paced more smoothly, and if the lead character's spiritual search was developed instead of just hinted at, this could have been a great film. Full Review
