The Raid: Redemption is a balls to the wall action film featuring impressive stunts and battle sequences that are a rarity in today's cinema: aimed at the mature audience, not the teen blockbuster crowd that a majority of action films are geared towards. They are bloody, gruesome... read more, and choreographed viscerally and realistically rather than for eye candy. There's plenty of sequences that will still impress on an eye candy level, but more for how well done they are by the actors rather than because of expensive special effects. There's a plot involved with police trying to overtake a crime lord, but it is more used for the set-up of trying to make it to the top of a 15 floor building to get to him than anything. Every person (save for one) is out to kill the policemen. It kind of makes it similar to a video game in that aspect, but there's just enough going on with the plot to keep you interested before people start destroying each other again. The dialogue is not the greatest, but it gets you from point A to point B effectively. If you need a compelling story to sell you on your films, this is not it, but if you just want to watch some of the most impressive action choreography of the year along with some heaping of blood, there's probably nothing better.

Last year I read a lot about this movie, but up until last night I just kept pushing it back and looking over it. Finally sat down and watched it, and wow, this is an action movie! Now, this is an Asian foreign movie, so there are subtitles or you can watch with an English dub(... read morewhich I did, because it's awesome). It's about a group of special forces going into an apartment building that is 15 stories tall to extract a crime lord. But, the apartment is filled with killers, gangsters, thieves, and they all expect them and are ready. Very, very violent, bloody, gory, and exciting action movie I've seen in quite a while. The fight scenes are fantastic and choreographed very good. If you like action movies, then you really need to seek this out and give it a chance, because this is fantastic. A must watch. I hope they don't remake it for America, because I'm sure it won't be nearly as good or effective. But I would love to see sequels, I just hope they kick as much ass as this one.

A very good action film, with some great fight scenes. Amazing what they did considering the budget, great fight choreography. If you're after all out action this is for you.

"The Raid: Redemption" has been hyped up to be "one of the greatest action films of all time," and I could not disagree more. Sure, it helms some of the best choreographed fight sequences in the last decade, but what worth is that when the story is too plain for words. Come on, n... read moreobody can tell me that the heart of this film is grander than that of some of the award-winning dramas to come out in recent years. I had an awesome time viewing this film, the action is breathtaking and the cinematography is great. It's not even close to it's hype, and nowhere near one of the best of 2012, but it's so much fun to watch!

I'm not sure The Raid lived up to the huge amount of hype surrounding it this year but I did appreciate its originality, I just thought they could have done more with the story. I'm not a huge fan of violence but the fighting chirography was something else, I was hugely impressed... read more. For me it felt like a mixture of early John Woo (before he went all 'slow motion dove shot' on us) and moody John Carpenter (Think Assault on Precinct 13), Gareth Evans is a name to look out for.

Oh my god! What a movie! Most violent action movie I have seen in years. Fantastic!

A great action film. Not only does this movie have some of the best martial arts I have seen on screen, it has a story as well. This is rare in action films and I truly believe you can have it both ways. Although the plot is not overly complex, "The Raid" proves me right.

Feeling each of the character's physical wounds, pain, and agony in action film's mentally, is vital to the excitement and the thrills of it all. In recent memory I can't think of watching anything more m... read moreentally painful than the suggestion of each kill that is seen in The Raid. What it loses in substance it makes up for in, pure, undeniably perfect, full on action. I'm certain that this will be the regarded as the best action film of the year. It's an absolutely fantastic technical achievement in filming action sequences. The cinematography is brilliant and the building itself, the king size set piece, is reminiscent of Die Hard and improves upon it in terms of design and visual spark. I dont think director Gareth Evans should be involed in the production of the remake being made for Hollywood. This is going to be almost impossible to top. It doesn't help that it just encourages people further to avoid subtitled films. Despite that fact, this film is edgy, hard-hitting and mind-blowing. It's plot is straight-forward, it's made on a small budget, and it's proof that blockbuster special effects doesn't come close to what truly makes action films awe-inspiring. I'll also add that the acting is surprisingly decent for a film of it's kind. It's a near perfect movie, and essential viewing for action fans. It's undeniably cool, incredibly inventive, but what I loved about the film the most however is how it reminds us that two men fighting in a kitchen with pots and pans can be more thrilling than giant robots destroying a city. It's incredibly enjoyable and i'll say very proudly that it's one of the best films of 2012.

Don't think too much about it. Don't expect anything that resembles a nuanced script or complex characters. Just watch it, and if you're a fan of action movies, you will love it. Nonstop, lightning fast action sequences from start to finish.
