This teen comedy from Disney is based on a popular novel by Meg Cabot and directed by Garry Marshall. Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) is a teenage klutz who's openly mocked by the popular Lana Thomas ... read more read more...(pop singer Mandy Moore). In fact, Mia's only friend at her exclusive prep school is the socially outcast Lilly (Heather Matarazzo). Mia's life takes a dramatic turn, however, when her mom announces that her late biological father was in actuality the crown prince of a small European nation, Genovia. Now Mia is the sole heir to the throne, and her grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi (Julie Andrews) wants to tutor the awkward teen in royal behavior. It's a daunting task given Mia's lax table manners, poise, and hair care, but the girl perseveres with some makeover help from her grandmother's security chief Hector Elizondo) and a style expert (Larry Miller). In the meantime, Mia's romantic affections are torn between the handsome, popular Josh (Erik Von Detten) and the more appropriate Michael (Robert Schwartzman), who also happens to be Lilly's brother. The Princess Diaries is the second film from Whitney Houston's production shingle after the television version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella (1997). ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

Not my thing, but im a guy, haha. The movie has a interesting premise, and works out well, but soon becomes just another chick flick, with afunny cast, but is not my kind of movie.

Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway make a great combination and this film is hysterical. Definite must watch and the sequel doesn't dissapoint.

It was an okay type of movie. Anne Hathaway acted well. Her before face was not that bad if you ask me. Loved the grandma. Very elegant and cool. It's a good movie to watch with your family.

A fun and wishful film about a geek that becomes a princess. Brilliant in the way that every teenage girl can identify with Mia in some way. If you need a pick up then watch it.

Once in a while, I enjoy a good, cliched teen comedy. In honor of the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton taking place today, I shall review "The Princess Diaries". This is the film that made Oscar-nominee, future Catwoman, Anne Hathaway a star.

Anne plays a shy... read more, lonely teenage girl named Mia Thermopolis. When Mia's rich, royal grandmother comes to visit, Mia discovers that she has royal blood and is the princess of a made-up foreign country known as Genovia. She gets a makeover, learns royal manners (which she fails to learn, very funny!), and gets what every celerity hates: unwanted media attention.

I thought "The Princess Diaries" was a sweet, funny movie. Anne Hathaway is a great actress in her role of Mia and plays a charming, clumsy princess. I love Julie Andrews and she plays the kind, witty woman we all came to know and love in films such as "The Sound of Music" and "Mary Poppins". Hector Elizondo was cool and funny. I would like to hang out, or even make a movie, with him. The supporting cast includes Mandy Moore, Eric Von Detten, and Sandra Oh. Mandy Moore played the snotty, popular cheerleader. Oh, she was funny but her acting skills: meh, okay. Eric Von Detten is the arrogant jock Mia has a crush on. Decent actor. Of the supporting minor cast, I enjoyed Sandra Oh as the vice principal. I don't watch "Grey's Anatomy" but I seem to be entertained by Sandra Oh when I see her in any film.

The writing was good. Had witty moments and also its weak one. It had a good script but I think the main issue is that the film is cliched. Girl likes jock, stuck-up blonde cheerleader, invisible, socially awkward protagonist. We've all seen these before. "The Princess Diaries" is a great family/teen comedy. Its got enough for both genders to enjoy from and is one of the better live-action Disney family films from the 2000s decade. I like this movie and I bet you will enjoy some of it too. Thanks for reading and leave clean comments below. We all like at least one movie that has a Rotten rating on the Tomatometer, don't we?

Anne Hathaway's career was basically made by this movie, and it's hard not to love her with the imperical writing of the original books by teenage siren Meg Cabot.

This is a great family film. It's about a teenager turning into a young lady and that she didn't have to look far for love. :) Just a fantastic movie & Robert Schwartzman is so cute and sweet in this movie. :) A great movie for all ages! :) I enjoy it every time that I watch it. :)

It's odd to think of a Teen Girl movie not being corny and pathetic, it's usually the trend with the genre. This is the case with this though. This is so heart felt, so sympathetic and well made that there's no denying it's a masterpiece among coming of age movies. It also happen... read mores to be the movie that catapulted Anne Hathaway into the world, she is perfect and lovable as Mia Thermopolis. Garry Marshall can do either a great job or a so/so job with the romantic genre, this is easily his best work. Mainly because it's so honest and charming on all levels. The cinematography is a lot grander than it might have been under another crew, making Mia's story larger than life and important to the audience. This was also a movie that i've loved since a young age and manages to still hold up today.

Screenwriter Gina Wendkos, working from Meg Cabot's novel, resorts to monotonous movie clichés: almost uniformly cruel classmates and a callous, cacophonous mob of media jackals. Full Review

Hardly a cross-dressing update of My Fair Lady. But in its own blanded-down fashion, it captures just enough of that show's metamorphic zest to make you wish it were. Full Review

The movie is one to savor for its good humor and big heart, despite some hackneyed fairy-tale notions. Full Review

Surprisingly little time is spent mining the comic potential of Mia's education, with the comedy rationed in favour of a tiresome amount of attention lavished on her ongoing school problems. Full Review
