This is a character driven movie with some really messed up characters. The movie is a little slow for my tastes and I really didn't go for the pairing of the two main people.
There is a flashback scene that is pretty violent and racy that made me a little uncomfortable but it's... read more -

Tom (Nick Nolte) moves from Atlanta to New York to help his twin sister (Savannah). Savannah's psychiatrist, Lowenstein (Barbra Streisand.) asks Tom to be his sister's memory. There is good reason that Tom and Savannah cannot remember their childhood.

A powerful character story. It's fun seeing Barbara Streisand as a psychiatrist in a serious romantic drama. Nick Nolte plays a traumatized adult whom she helps. A well made film.

I only saw this for the first time recently. I guess I held off because of Barbra Streisand. She's very good, as is Nolte. And Blythe Danner! Another movie you won't want to see if you're already feeling down. However, redemption is right around the corner.

A deeply moving exploration of the tangled emotions of a dysfunctional Southern family, this lovingly crafted (though unevenly scripted) film of Pat Conroy's novel centers on Nick Nolte's performance ... Full Review
The Prince of Tides marks Ms. Streisand's triumphantly good job of locating that story's salient elements and making them come alive on the screen. Full Review
Streisand hyperbolizes everything, from James Newton Howard's whackingly obtrusive score to Nick Nolte's overripe narration. Full Review
An assured and very serious love story that allows neither humor nor romance to get in the way of its deeper and darker subject. Full Review
When her good sense doesn't yield to hubris, Streisand shows the polish of a veteran director in handling this complicated form. Full Review
A big-hearted performance by Nick Nolte puts The Prince of Tides over the top. Full Review
The Prince of Tides is a big, messy, go-for-the-throat soap opera, the sort of movie in which every third scene feels like one of those soul-spilling climaxes they use for clips on Oscar night. Full Review
Directed with loving care by Barbra Streisand, this adaptation of the best-seller also boasts a serious flaw: Streisand herself. Full Review
Graced with fine performances and commendably biting off more than it can ever hope to chew, The Prince Of Tides is a rare slice of romantic moviemaking for all those grown-ups feeling ignored since K... Full Review
