The film tries awfully hard to sell itself as a "smart" film by densely packing the script with big words and setting itself at Oxford with actors speaking with posh British accents, but it's really just a poorly-acted, miserably-directed farce whose purpose is only to make idiot... read mores think themselves members of Mensa for having understood what John Hurt or Elijah Wood was saying. The word choice in the script, Wood's lines especially, attempt to make the characters sound like the Oxonians they supposedly are, but everything that comes out of their mouths is really nothing but pure idiocy. Truly an awful, awful film.

An intriguing movie. A decent film for the intellectual, I guess, but confusing if math is not a strong point. Wood is an alright actor; much better when he was younger though, in my opinion. It is worth watching if you are interested, but PAY ATTENTION! Or you will be confused, ... read morelike me...

Oh, Netflix. Why did you recommend this to me?
Decent acting, but the story got a bit contrived for my liking and the end was... completely unbelievable. And parts of the story seemed to happen way too fast with out much reason for them. Such as Beth's obsession or Martin's despe... read morerate desire to leave behind the numbers and symbols. Seems more of a source of melodrama than actual motive.

Ok movie. As always they have to try and put a twist on mystery movies, but the twist in this one was pretty anticlimatic. Plus the whole end thing with the buses didn't really make sense (maybe I wasn't paying attention at that point?). The allusion to the butterfly effect was... read more nice since it pulled the film together to draw a point other than just simple entertainment. And I liked it cause Leonor Watling is retarded hot in this movie.

Cast: Elijah Wood, John Hurt, Leonor Watling, Julie Cox, Jim Carter, Alex Cox, Burn Gorman, Dominique Pinon, Anna Massey, Alan David

    Director: Álex de la Iglesia

Summary: After Oxford logic professor Arthur Seldom (John Hurt) and his new graduate student Martin (Elijah Wo... read moreod) discover a dead woman, they get involved in trying to solve a string of homicides in which the killer marked each victim's body with cryptic mathematical symbols.

My Thoughts: "Definitely a mystery you can get lost in. I mean literally lost in. Like when all the math stuff comes in to play it loses me for awhile, but then it draws my interest back. So this film has a bit of a tug of war effect. Your in and out of the story quite a bit, well unless your a mathematician. But the story is interesting and the acting is pretty good by most. I rather enjoyed Todorov's drunken rampage. I found some of the off the wall things he was saying to be funny. But in the end the story is kind of hard to follow. But I still think it's worth the watch."

This biritsh murder mystery has much to be desired! Its confusing with all the maths talk that just makes me feel dumb although i quite enjoyed the storyline it was a bit far fetched towards the end that just made this film seem pointless boring and ridicullas!!
Wood and Hurt ga... read moreve goos performances but they cant save this over smart boring movie!!
Wood comes from overseas to study mathmatics and wants to learn from Hurts character who is the best professor of maths! but when they discover a body of Hurts best friend they go on a mystery hunt for a murderer!
Although it isnt predictable they story and plot is not enough to save this movie! BUt i would give it a watch just for the fun of it!

In the opening scene, John Hurt?s performance gave promise of a potentially good film, however, as the Cluedo like plot emerged, it became clear that John Hurt, Elijah Wood and Tom Conti?s talents were wasted on such an amateur film. It certainly wasn?t all bad, but when we talk... read more Oxford murders, straight away we are reminded of such TV Dramas as ?Inspector Morse? and it?s spin off ?Lewis?, both giving off the impression of a classy and stylish Drama and in reality this falls way short in comparison.

Very english murder mystery.Nice performance for hurt and wood.Is a bit dull in places but other wise a ok movie.Like it if you are into miss marple or inspector morse crime mysterys.

A film about Oxford would probably not fit into todayâ(TM)s acceptable films. A film about murders has been done countless times. Put the two together and you may think for a moment that something good could be produced, especially with Elijah Wood strategically placed, but inste... read moread the opposite occurs and the film falls just shy of being an absolute piece of missable compost. And even the smartest person in the world could tell you that.
