Andrew Horn (co-writer/producer of East Side Story) directs the documentary The Nomi Song, a portrait of late German artist Klaus Nomi. Born in Bavaria during the '40s, Nomi was a trained opera singer... read more read more... who became an underground cult figure in New York City during the '70s. Fancifully dressed in black-and-white costumes, Nomi performed unique cabaret shows and earned a small but loyal fan base. He made recordings, appeared in films, and even sang for commercials. He was building up a career in Europe when he fell ill. He died in 1983 of an AIDS-related infection. The documentary includes interviews with actress Ann Magnuson, art director Page Wood, and photographer Anthony Scibelli.     Never heard about this singer before this documentary. I thought it was really interesting and a well done documentary.

    I saw his performance on Urrg! A Music War back in the mid-80s and thought "whos IS this guy?" After two and a half decades I finally watched this and found out. This is a very well done documentary about an original and pioneering talent. His voice was unique, his artisitc visio... read moren was bold.

    In addition to providing a great look into the fascinating story of Klaus Nomi, this film gives you an extra appreciation for the explosion of creativity that happened during the New Wave movement in music in the late 70's and early 80's. It all kind of died around when Nomi died... read more too.

    COOL view of what NYC had going on during the 70's and the incredible head that was on Nomi's shoulders. There will never be another Nomi. He sings pop songs in an operatic falsetto, so if you don't like opera it won't be your bag. BUT...

    really good. I don't remember him too much growing up. A sad ending to a bit of a sad life.Which is why I liked it. I like sad movies particularly when they end sad.*sigh*.. theres a life lesson to be learned here
