The further misadventures of bumbling Los Angeles police Lieutenant Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) are chronicled in this third installment in the popular Naked Gun comedy series. This by-the-numbers e... read more read more...ntry begins with Drebin as a happily retired house-husband called back into action when an evil terrorist organization threatens Los Angeles. As in the other Naked Gun films, this plot is merely an excuse for an unhinged, rapid-fire succession of gags, ranging from satirical lampoons of cop movies to broad slapstick, all played with a perfectly straight face. Nielsen provides his familiar combination of complete witlessness and oblivious dignity as Drebin, and the film attempts to match the earlier Naked Gun films -- and the Police Squad! television series that inspired them -- in the number of jokes. However, the film proved less successful than its predecessors, as some viewers found that the freewheeling comic style of the earlier films had solidified into its own formula, now mildly entertaining but disappointingly predictable. ~ Judd Blaise, Rovi

Pretty much to everyone's surprise the third and final installment of the most hilarious cop comedy series of all times is an enhancement after the second. Sure, a couple of jokes feel repetitive by now, you just know the type of things Frank Drebin will say or cause. The film ma... read morekes up for that with a rather different story and especially an outrageous showdown at the Oscar show, which of course will never be the same again thanks to a certain Lieutenant. Overall, you're having way too much fun with the silliness to worry about a couple of jokes you may have seen coming. It was probably a good decision to end the series right there, at least it went out while being on top.

Leslie Nielson is back in one of the most shockingly disappointing sequels of all time. I cannot say that I hate this film, but it fails to provide any worthwhile comedy and the switch to dramatic moments was a very odd thing for s series like this to do. If they were going to ha... read moreve him become a cop again after retiring, then they might as well just thought of a better story and kept him on the police squad right from the start and have him retire at the end, it would have been a much better pace. Although , I must admit that seeing everyone one last time was amusing, and the final Academy Awards sequence was gut-splittingly funny, which leaves me with enough sympathy for the film to say that it shouldn't have been made, but after milking the franchise dry, it is what it is. I couldn't help but shrug my shoulders at how lame the jokes were and how overly stupid the slapstick was this time around. I do not recommend this film. I still say stick to the first and check out the second for a good laugh!

And so we come to the final entry in the Naked Gun series. Is it becoming tired at this point? You betcha. To be fair, this sequel is only slightly better than the one that came before it, but that isn't saying much. There aren't quite as many gags this time around as it tends to... read more rely more on situation comedy than out and out slapstick. Fortunately this one has a better pace and never stands still for a second. It also has a high cameo rate, but none of these things can save it from its mediocrity. All in all, I still prefer the original classic over the two sequels.

Retirement has not been good for Frank Drebin. His marriage is on the rocks and he feels emasculated as he no longer has the power of the law or the ability to shot bad guys. When he is offered the chance to help out with some undercover work, Frank jumps at the chance ? even tho... read moreugh Jane storms out. When the info Frank finds points to imprisoned bomb expert Rocco Dillon he agrees to go into the jail and infiltrate his gang in order to find out his plan.

Despite the fact that the second part was a little bit of a dip from part 1, Debin was brought back for a final insult and managed to produce a very enjoyable conclusion to the series. Opening with one of the best moments from all three films (a hilarious expansion of The Untouchable train station scene) the film keeps up a very consistent tone that has plenty of big laughs as well as lots of little things that will keep you chuckling. Its not that the film has no misses (it does) but they are covered by the sheer weight of hits that it includes. The plot is fairly simple but is well done to include a few basic set ups ? the prison, the break out and the Oscars; each part is very funny if you're in the mood for it and, hey, even if you're not it is pretty infectious.

The writing is good ? it is easy to forget how hard it is to write a good spoof, but recent attempts have shown had easy it is to misjudge the film and just be silly rather than funny. Another big part of the film working is yet another great performance from Leslie Neilsen, who makes it all look so easy! Ward is a great addition to the cast and is much better than the bad guy from the second film ? Ward plays it gruff and straight, making it all the funnier. Presley is so-so, with her character kind of shoe-horned into the film to her detriment, but she does have some good moments. Freeman is good value and Smith, well, Smith has a good body and that's about it ? but fair play to her for sending herself up like that, it's not like she needed the money after all.

Overall, this is a very enjoyable film as long as you are in the mood. Even if you aren't roaring with laughter you'll still be chuckling along. The material is hardly the height of wit or intelligence and some viewers may find it to be all a bit broad but fans of the genre will love it and get plenty of laughs from the material and the mostly good performances.

Funny but losing its edge Im afraid. The look is classic Police Squad but the cast is getting old and the laughs are getting a tad too silly and old. Neilsen and Kennedy just keep it in the cool zone but they finish it at the right time. Check Frank in the supermarket at the star... read moret..great little scene with Huey Lewis soundtrack.

About as good as the second Naked Gun movie, except this one includes the questionable addition of Anna Nicole Smith, who couldn't act if her life depended on it. Thankfully, however, Leslie Nielsen is nothing short of great as always.

Altough this is referred to by many as the ... read more"weakest" one in the trilogy, it's still way better than today's standard in the spoof movie genre. It's downright tragic that they don't make comedies like this anymore. Man, I sure miss the 90's!

It's sad to see what started out as such a lively and creative series descend to this -- a feeble attempt to stretch a few pedestrian jokes into a feature-length film. Full Review
