At times cheesy, clichéd and out and out hilarious, this was a fun movie to watch. The acting, actually, was surprisingly good, and for most of the quality, you can look to Janeane Garofalo, because she really turns in a strong performance. Why, oh why, did she choose stand-up ag... read more

Fun, offbeat movie. Janeane Garolfalo plays it straight and simple in a town obsessed with creating couples.

Critic Reviews
By-the-book romantic comedy with great scenery, cute story, and engaging characters.
Surprising little romantic comedy that shows Garofalo could be a very charming movie actress if she wanted
There are two reasons to see "The Matchmaker" and neither involves the two characters at the center of this far-fetched romantic comedy. Full Review
Garofalo's good, but the Celtic charm is laid on way too thick.
Garofalo's good in this, but I didn't buy the romance.
A comedy of minimal charm
Good premise. Stinky execution. Garofalo deserves better.
A light-hearted comedy with just the right blend of Irish blarney and romantic reversals. Full Review
has nothing to do with the story that was later made into 'Hello, Dolly.' ... 'Hello, Blarney' might have been a better title. Full Review
