despite the beautiful music and cinematography, there was little substance to this film. i was hoping for a film that would provide more history of the cuban crisis; this film's treatment was facile. slow paced, boring, and overall disappointing film.

really great film for a directorial debut by andy garcia. he also does a great job acting in this one. bill murray plays a small role but steals the movie in all of his scenes. his character is even pointless, but he makes the film more entertaining. good flick that i recomme... read more

This is a good movie, with actor and director (Andy Garcia), Shows the Cuba way of life coming up. Kind of like the Soprano's in the begining. Glad I rented, but doubt that I would add it to my DVD Collection, sorry a nonbuy. Great dancing and music all throughout.

Honestly, I can't explain what happened here. The plot didn't seem bad at all. The movie has a great cast and I'm a huge of Cuba's history, but somehow this movie was extremely boring to me. Big disappointment.

I have a feeling the scads of those giving terrible reviews did NOT grow up in Miami. As a non-Cuban from the area, I still felt rather an attachment to the film's subject matter, and I suspect that being Cuban and/or growing up in Cuban culture substantially affects one's perce... read more

i'll give it 3 for the soundtrack. but not more than that. too many flaws and holes in this movie. it could've been better if they'd put more tensions in some of the scenes and change the main lady. and last but not least don't give us the easy ending.

This movie was just painful to watch. Amature camerawork, uninteresting characters, and awkward dialogue are just the tip of the iceberg. I think Andy Garcia thought he was filming "VINCENT CORLEONE GOES TO CUBA". The story actually gets really ineresting in the last 30 minutes... read more
Critic Reviews
It's handsome and heartfelt but mired in murky politics, plot inertia, musical montages and painfully pointed symbolism. Full Review
Garcia needed better guiding hands and eyes in the editing room to jettison the many parts that bog down the story. Full Review
Somehow simultaneously too much and not enough. At 143 minutes, it well overstays its welcome as a movie, but with a little more fleshing out it might have worked as a miniseries. Full Review
Unfortunately, Garcia is inept as a director. His scenes are shapeless and bloated with self-important speeches. Full Review
It's barely coherent as it is, but at 2 hours and 23 minutes, The Lost City is simply infuriating. Full Review
Too scattered, too confused, too patched-together to work dramatically. Full Review
The movie has too many stories to tell and tells none of them very well. Full Review
