John G. Avildsen rehashes his shopworn formula for another go-round in The Karate Kid Part III. Going against the wishes of his mentor, Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki "Pat" Morita), Daniel (Ralph Macchio) will ... read more read more...defend his karate title in an All-Valley Championship match arranged by his nemesis Kreese (Martin Kove), whose karate studio folded after his star student lost the championship to Daniel. Kreese's friend, Vietnam veteran and toxic waste dumper Terry (Thomas Ian Griffith), agrees to help his old pal regain the championship trophy. Daniel's rival Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan) is known as "the bad boy of karate," and Daniel feels he requires more training to vanquish him. But Mr. Miyagi refuses to help Daniel train for the tournament: "Karate to defend life and honor means something. To defend a plastic trophy means nothing." As a result, Daniel naïvely falls into the clutches of Terry, who takes him on as a karate student. But after Daniel finds himself trapped at the bottom of a cliff and Daniel's girlfriend, Jessica (Robyn Lively), has her life threatened, Mr. Miyagi realizes the bad guys have gone too far and agrees to coach Daniel for the tournament. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

Again with the unnecessary sequels. THE KARATE KID: PART III is a terrible film with terrible acting, terrible directing, terribly-written screenplay...everything about it is just terrible. It was an inevitable, but nevertheless bad, threequel.

Pretty much as good as the first one. Two real badasses here...
  • August 20, 2010
A so-so third effort as the original rival sensi from the first wants help from his old army buddy to get revenge.
  • June 19, 2010
Again not as good as the first, of course, but its still actually quite good, getting alittle samey with the plot but it still works and lifts you by the end. The baddies still work well and the return of kove actually gives the whole thing a complete feel. It looks alittle TV mo... read morevieish this time but the different fighting styles confronting Daniel make it interesting and overall completes the trilogy well.

More trouble from the Cobra Kai, this picks up after Daniel humiliated them in the tournament. I think it's a great overall story that really changes the pace of the first two, there's more of a threat this time around too. Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita continued to play into thei... read morer characters and conclude the series on a high note. It has all the great directing and cinematography from the first, proving that all 80s teen movies don't look like sets.

Way too serious. The Karate Kid is supposed to be fun, goofy, awesomely 80's, mixed with some cool martial arts like the crane kick. The 3rd installment is all about maturity, dealing with business problems, etc... There are not many enjoyable parts to this movie except when D... read moreaniel-San climbs down a cliff to rescue a banzai tree, which is not supposed to be funny at all; it's ridiculous.

Just a great comeback for the end of the karate kid series.
  • February 13, 2008
It's not as good as the first 2 but it still a very good movie, Daniel Larusso showing us once again that he can beat the odds with the help of Mr. Miyagi. A bad guy from KK1 attempts to gain revenge on Daniel and Miyagi, with the aid of an old army buddy.
  • May 3, 2007
Martin Cove returns from the first film to try and turn Daniel-san bad! Will he succeed? Well, no. He won't. But we all knew that already didn't we. One was enough.
  • January 16, 2007
In trying to recapture the feel of the first one they seem to have taken a step back.

It's difficult to believe that nearly every member of the primary artistic team from the first two features returned for the third Kid installment, and this was the cruel abomination that resulted. Full Review
