Just ok. I don't get why so many people just LOVED it. I have always been a fan of the muppets, especially Fozzie, so it's not that I don't get the genre and all the self-referential jokes.

It was a great family movie. It had great cast, fun cameos, fun songs, lots of laughs, and a good storyline. It is the best family film of the year. I highly recommend this movie to both kids and adults.

It was cute and would be great for kids, but I found it a little juvenile for my taste. It only really picked up in the last 30-40 minutes of the movie. Some fabulous cameos, and some catchy tunes, and admittedly the puppets from my childhood who I loved then, but as an adult do ... read morenot find quite so entertaining. Worth the watch but not exactly brilliant.

The new Muppet reboot has a decent, moderately inventive beginning (resourceful, agile, light on its feet, "indie") but a terribly unimaginative resolution (predictable, unsatisfying, presumptuous, "studio").

The script -- by Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller, the team behind Fo... read morergetting Sarah Marshall -- begins in an interesting, scruffy way: non-Muppet puppet Walter, human Gary, and Gary's fiancee Mary live in Smalltown, USA. Their expositions are packed with a lot of groan-worthy self-referential jokes, but they seem fresh more often than hacky, and they're at a reassuringly patient, organic speed.

The characters set off together on a trip to Los Angeles, where (novelty be damned) they'll have to reunite the Muppets and put on a show. Soon enough, though, the jokes get lazier, and start to become rote callbacks and remittances instead of legitimate things. Walter's, Gary's, and Mary's threads of drama are mostly dropped in favor of the Muppets', and the whole story slides even faster into lameness. Jason Segel, I'm sorry to say, is often pretty mediocre as Gary, like he was too busy writing and producing to be adventurous or loose with the acting; Amy Adams as Mary isn't much better, although she does have a pretty great duet with Miss Piggy (nice choreography, cutaway shots, etc.) later on.

Overall, I think The Muppets is trying to scoop some wit out of a strange anti-harmonious shell, but it seems vain and misbegotten -- and almost cruel, in a nostalgio-pathetic sort of sense -- to even try.

The Muppets are back and they are still singing, dancing, and putting on on hell of a show. With some brilliant songs, this film well and truly brings the Muppets into the lives of a new generation. The plot is a breathe of fresh air that is far deeper than you would have thought... read more, and there are both the classic comedy elements as well as heart-felt sentimental ones which keep you in check. The songs keep you going from scene to scene and make this wonderful film, even more delightful.

I was a huge fan of the Muppets as a kid and I thought this a great comeback. The songs were catchy, the numbers were adorable, and it was great seeing all my favorite characters again. Jason Segel did a great job.

From the moment the Muppets finally manage to reunite after all their years apart (after one of the characters comically suggests that they be gathered together in a montage to save time), it's clear that it's been far too long since they last entertained us with their wacky, int... read moreelligent humor, catchy tunes, and, most importantly, abundance of heartfelt moments. Jason Segel & Nicolas Stoller along with director James Bobin and the impeccable songwriting talents of Flight of the Conchords' Brett Mckenzie have crafted one of the most purely enjoyable movies of the year and, even if it misses the mark in some respects, one thing cannot be denied: It sure is great to have the Muppets back.

Fantastic revitalisation of the Muppets franchise forged from nostalgia for the brand. Self-aware and geared towards the entirety of its potential audience, this film is an absolute joy to behold from any perspective.

So much promise. Weak. Lacked the intelligence of the Muppets of yore.

Yes, Kermit does reprise The Rainbow Connection, surely one of the loveliest movie songs ever and, yes, it still brings tears to your eyes. Happy tears, realizing some marvelous things never change. It's hard not to be both heartened and a little wistful about the fact tha... read moret The Muppets is probably as good a Muppet project as it's possible to make without Jim Henson. Clever and current without being cynical, smart without being condescending, funny without being exclusionary to grown-ups or to kids. The Muppets is both a delightful family film about the Muppets and a winking, self-referential satire about how lame the Muppets are. The Muppets may have been born out of a desire to revive a dormant franchise that was once a cash cow, but there isn't a single beat in the film that feels crass or opportunistic. This one is from the heart. Made absolutely for grown-up fans, this is the Muppets as you fondly remember them: funny, smart and gleefully insane. Kermit, it's great to have you back. You can find movies with better scripts, direction, acting, songs, and jokes than The Muppets -- but you won't find one that's nearly so much fun.

VERDICT: "Instant Classic" - [Positively Acclaimed Reaction] Usually I give this rating to a movie that I believe is absolutely outstanding and has little to no flaws in it. Audiences, who haven't seen this film, must see it right now! (Films that are rated 4.5 or 5 stars)
