With her younger brother Rhett (Trevor Morgan), Ruby is sent to live with the legal guardians chosen by her parents, their best friends Terry (Stellan Skarsgård) and Erin Glass (Diane Lane). The Glasses live in an opulent Malibu mansion where Ruby and Rhett are promised all of the finest luxuries money can buy and a lavish new rich-kid lifestyle. Before long, however, Ruby begins to suspect that her new caretakers are not what they appear on the surface and that the couple's financial woes may force them to harm her or Rhett in order to cash in on their sizable life insurance policies. The Glass House was written by Wesley Strick, screenwriter of Cape Fear (1991), Wolf (1994), and The Saint (1997). ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

Decent good movie but not a great one sorry. Basically same idea as other movies with different actors...

Trust can be as transparent as glass. When Ruby Baker's parents are killed in a car accident, her and her brother, Rhett, must travel to Malibu, to live with Terrence and ... read moreErin Glass, their former neighbors. At first, Ruby and Rhett are comfortable and happy. Ruby is making new friends at school and Rhett is getting more video games and flashy toys then he could possibly know what to do with! But, when Ruby speaks to her family's estate lawyer, he tells her that her parents have left her and Rhett $4 million. Suddenly, Ruby begins to notice odd behavior from Terry and Erin.

    Well played.

An interesting thriller that started out like most teen movies, but luckily never stayed as one, more of a watchable film than an edge of your seat thriller, but enjoyable all the same

I liked this movie. Diane Lane's characters drug problem was slightly nauseating though.

Pretty bad. Everyone plays their character like their job is on the line, and its just a sick, nasty, and missable plotline.

Rather mediocre thriller with a pretty disappointing cast. Somehow it's hard to care for Sobieski's rather bitchy character and people like Lane and Skarsgård have been a lot more convincing than here, too. That being said, the movie isn't boring, but not very exciting either. A ... read morelot of stereotypes and a rather silly showdown made me look at the clock a lot more often than I should have. Meh.

The Glass House is noticeably devoid of tension, and all of its major plot points are predictable, but there are a few neat elements to it. All of the players give strong performances across the board - sure, Leelee Sobieski can't act, but her (lack of) presence is utilized well ... read morehere. Diane Lane and that guy whose last name I can't spell are great.

The house itself looks awesome, but it doesn't really contribute much to the movie. Weird directorial decision, especially since you can tell that they went all out on a lot of aspects of it.

The Glass House's achilles heel (or its rock, whizzing toward the window, if you will) is its writing. The dialogue is good, but the pacing is all over the map and there's very little "thrill" for a thriller movie. Ruby is a poorly-done character and you don't really feel much fear for her. Similarly, the villain doesn't really have enough opportunities to flex his evil muscles - he spends almost as much time getting threatened as Ruby. And as I said before, if you don't see nearly everything coming before it does, then you need to watch a few more bad thrillers.

Still, it's not a total wash. The Glass House is disposable fun - nothing that will end up on any Top 10 lists, but worthy of the hour and a half you fritter away on it.

A creepy thriller but kind of plain.

All the right elements are present in The Glass House, but the presentation is lacking. Leelee Sobieski has a distinct acting style that I have always enjoyed (plus she is gorgeous) and Stellan Skarsgård is one of the best villain performers of all time, but the film fails to imp... read moreress through most of its duration. The action sequences are basic, the twists are seen from a mile away, yet for some reason this film remains a guilty pleasure.

Wesley Strick, the screenwriter, is my hero. I admire anyone who's figured out how to do as little work as he does and still make a good living. Full Review
