Well made, but it?s a little to predictable to be a great film. Great music, the period detail is fair. The performances are fine, perhaps a bit melodramatic, but overall everyone does well. Very entertaining and it always held my interest.

WILL MICHAEL WRIGHT EVER BREAK THE TYPE-CASTED DRUG ABUSER? HE'S EITHER A THUG OR DRUG USER IN HIS MOVIES, BUT THIS WAS A GOOD TALE OF MUSICIANS WHO MADE IT ONLY TO BREAK IT. BLAME THE REC EXECS.

The music draws you into this movie... but the characters and their story lines keeps you in. It shows all types of the black man in a very positive and uplifting manner.

Critic Reviews
The charitable might be tempted to describe The Five Heartbeats as wholesome and well-intentioned -- but so is a 6-year-old who just crayon-scrawled "I love cookies" on the living room wall. Full Review
An underrated drama about the ups and downs of a Temptations-like r&b group with solid acting and fine music. If you haven't seen it, rent it. It's worth it.
