Perform a Google search on "small-town America," and eventually you'll stumble across Ogden Marsh, a picturesque hamlet situated a safe distance from the nearest big city, and full of friendly faces. The citizens of Ogden Marsh are happy, albeit unremarkable people, but they're about to discover just how fragile their warm slice of the American dream really is. When a mysterious toxin transforms the locals into murderous maniacs, it's up to Sheriff David Dutton (Olyphant) to find out why a man who was once an upstanding citizen would attempt to massacre the local youth baseball team, and a caring father would burn his beloved family alive. Within hours the town has descended into total chaos, and the government has ordered it quarantined. Anyone who attempts to escape will be shot on sight, whether they're infected or not. Realizing that their only hope for survival is to fight through the madness that has consumed their once-quiet town, Sheriff Dutton, his pregnant wife, Judy (Mitchell), his deputy Russell (Joe Anderson), and frightened medical center assistant Becca (Danielle Panabaker) wage an epic struggle to discover the source of this malevolent scourge while fending off their infected friends and neighbors. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Enjoyed it throughout decent movie pretty obvious what would happen but not bad. Now i have to go back and watch the original, I hear its much different. Even the overall theme is different in the original than this one. Putting in my q now. Was not a bad movie. I really like tim... read moreothy Olyphant. He needs to get more work!

"THAT SHI CRAY." That was my response after watching "The Crazies". The crazies in the movie are CRAY. It's not the usual mindless zombies that we're used to; these guys are smart, use tools, communicate, and set traps. As you can imagine, you don't wanna run into these guys. The... read morere's one scene in particular that works on every level that a horror movie should (Car wash scene). Exquisitely shot and riveting. You will be tense in a number of scenes. Unfortunately, the rest seems like a big ball of mash that seems sloppily put together.

A well made horror remake thats tense and quite scary. In the style of horror classic such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre its scary without blood and gore.

A small town finds itself under seige from the military when its water supply is contaminated by a biological weapon that turns its inhabitants into psychopathic killers. The Crazies is a remake of a (rather bad) George Romero film from the 1970s that had a promising concept but ... read morefailed in its execution. This updated version follows the formula of other Romero remakes by upgrading the visuals and production value while at the same time gutting the story of any satirical or sociological aspects leaving a competent but rather generic horror film that barely explores its underlying concepts, instead relying on by the number horror film "scares" and gore. The characters are the usual B-movie stereotypes which don't offend in any way, but at the same time make little impact on the imagination and as a result are very difficult to care about. The big twist in the tale that I patiently waited to lumber over the horizon arrived on cue, but was done with so little cinematic impact (a line of computer text, if you can believe it) that it had completely the opposite of the desired effect and felt like a total damp squib. Not terrible by any means but both 28 Days Later films told a tale that was pretty much identical, and did it with far more flair and imagination.

Surprising solid. Definitely a few too many "convenient" moments, but that's common for horror films. Overall, I really liked this one. I definitely recommend it!

It was a pretty solid horror film. It was scary, but funny in some parts. It was worth the watch.

The only thing that really bothered me about this film was the fact that certain people would get caught in a nasty situation, then some other person would bail them out of troubl... read moree. A mad-house of big scares, chills, thrills and suspense. A smart, spine-tingling and nerve-frying edge of your seat horror thrill-ride. A haunting and utterly terrifying experience that's truly breathtaking and will chill you to the bone.

While it loses the charm of Romero's low-budget clunkiness, it is in all other regards superior. Full Review

The incoherence is made all the more disappointing because Eisner displays a great deal of raw talent for the genre's tone and set pieces. Full Review

Romero had quite a lot on his mind, back in the day: Vietnam, the Kent State shootings, a wicked distrust of the military and the Man in general. Eisner has almost nothing on his mind. Full Review

If there's a message in all this, it's buried in blood splatter. Which is fine, but makes The Crazies more disappointing than if it had less lofty goals. Full Review

The filmmakers seem less clear on what really made those early Romero films great, which is something that, by definition, can't be re-created by any level of loving craftsmanship: They were timely. Full Review
