Nick (Eric Lively) and Julie (Erica Durance) were deeply in love, but when death robs the young couple of their lifetime of happiness, Nick isn't willing to say goodbye to his soulmate without a fight. Soon discovering that he has the ability to travel into the past to a point before the time of Julie's untimely death, Nick struggles to find a means of saving his one true love despite the increasingly troubling results that his well-intended heroics seem to have on the future. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Same story but just with different people. Not as great as the first one but wasn't that bad either. The ending was sad (and I hate sad ending).

Awful. Didn't recapture the magic of the first film and was just gratuitous and stupid in every single way. I didn't care about the charactes, I didn't care what happened.

Same format as the first (as expected) with a different set of circumstances, which could have developed into a fairly good story, instead it turned in to quite a pointless sequel.

Not as good as the first one, I guess that's why it came out directly to DVD. I think it lacks of suspense and mystery and the plot wasn't fully developed. The cast is decent and with convincing performances from part of them like Erica Durance. My conclusion is that if you don't... read more have something better to do, you can watch this movie.

Boy, they just don't make um like they used to.

    Directed by: John R. Leonetti.
    Starring: Eric Lively, Erica Durance.

Lets first stat the obvious, the original film has no need for a sequel at all, nothings cries out for it, especially when the original was unique, extremely well thought out and wel... read morel written and it stands alone.....but I had this strange urge to see this, just to see how badly they fail....and they certainly do, creating the obvious by making the most completely unnecessary sequel in recent years....but I was strangely entertained for 1 hour and 20 minutes.

The film now follows a completely different individual (obviously), someone who seems to have it all, a beautiful girlfriend, a great relationship, great friends and a successful job on the verge of being life changing......but the life changing event ends up being on a holiday that a group of 4 friends have where there tyre pops, skiding off the road and being hit side on by a truck, killing all except our lead character, he wakes up in the hospital and realises he can now change the past. Now the script, written by a Michael D. Weiss, who has written atrocious direct-to-video films such as Octopus and U.S Seals II.....well you can guess what is coming and you are right, it is like the man just graduated from Basics 101: How To Write A Terribly Cliched Script, the first 10 minutes alone, the attempt at creating development of the characters is awful, consisting of each character asking the other "Do you feel like you were the same as back then?"....its textbook writing, I do at least give credit to Michael for trying to do something a little different, because it is certainly difficult when you try not to copy the original, but he tries so hard to focus on his characters, that he misses how illogical his twists really are and not to mention the gaping plot hole called the ending, that is so blatently obvious, I am unsure as to how it even got past pre-production.

John R. Leonetti, the director of one of the worst sequels of the late 90's, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation........actually doesn't do such a bad job here, he is definately direct-to-video material, but trained more in cinematography (and quite a good one at that), a minority of his direction and visual style shows promise, even with the small budget. Now lets also stat that the one thing I hated about the original was Ashton Kutcher, the man can't string together coherent acting in whatever he does, even comedy and his attempt at being dramatic only made it worse.....Eric Lively is the leading man here and although he isn't great, he is certainly a step up....and Erica Durance, well she is really just the eye candy of the film (and for fans out there, there is a reasonably erotic sex scene in the film).

Overall I knew the film was going to be a complete failure, I was right but not really in all areas, the script alone is badly written, poorly undeveloped and illogical, but the direction has slight promise in a direct-to-video sort of way and Eric Lively does a reasonable performance.....I was strangely entertained. I don't really recommend it, maybe if you have a 'hire one, get one free' ticket in your video store and you can't think of what to hire as a second film, just pick this up....thankfully it only runs for 1 hour and 20 minutes.

A very good sequel if on a lower budget. Not as violent or dramatic as the first, but sexed up a little. Overall an enjoyable film.

I must say that these actors were better than the first but the first story was better than this one.

he Butterfly Effect 2 is a pointless and meaningless sequel and has ending that makes no sense at all.

A better film than its original, but that's not saying much when you remember what the original brought with it... Full Review
