Most movie critics are going to tell you that the Beyond has a plot that makes no sense, that the acting is hit-and-miss, that this is wrong, and this and that. What they might not tell you is that the Beyond is one of the most effectively atmospheric horror movies ever made. The... read more

L'Aldila/The Beyond is the film that brought interest in the cinema of Lucio Fulci. I became a big fan of his work after watching this movie. Have seen a good portion of his films since. And this film is also the reason us fans dub him as the "Italian Miyazaki".
L'Aldila was p... read more -

A grotesque and intense piece of celluloid from one of the kings of Italian gore. The plot outline itself doesn't really make a whole lot of sense and the acting is only so-so, but it doesn't really matter. Atmosphere, effects and presentation are all in fine Fulci form.

I finally have been initiated into the gruesome world of Lucio Fulci. This film was by turns a little scary, VERY disgusting and eventually laughable. The murders were so over the top (crucifixion, acid to the face, tarantulas who eat people!?!) and so obviously fake that the cre... read more

another Tarantino pick, the cinematography & atmosphere are great; some parts are really bad; the whole thing is hypnotically disgusting
Critic Reviews
The masterpiece of the great Italian horror director Lucio Fulci. Full Review
While reviewers complain about dialogue and plot, Fulci does his best work in nauseous moods and textures Full Review
Lucio Fulci's undead epics, with their over-the-top depictions of graphic violence, fall squarely into this splatter category, or so it seems, at first. Actually, there is a little something more goin... Full Review
Fulci's signature grand-gugnal gore drips in almost every scene. Full Review
Atmosphere alone can't keep this creaky pseudo-zombie flick from rapidly decaying into confusing, derivative tedium. Full Review
Fulci opus with inexplicable cult following.
Even by Argento standards, Fulci's film is nonsensical to the point of distraction. Full Review
It's never clear what's happening, where the characters are running to, why corpses are hooked up to EKG machines and why "imaginary" characters are prone to the sufferings of the flesh. Full Review
