The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel Reviews and Ratings

Poor Celia Imrie and Penelope WIlton - talented actors - get thankless roles, and too many storylines are tied up rather too neatly, but by and large "Marigold Hotel" is a funny, moving and unpatornising film with excellent performances. Tom Wilkinson is especially good.

Charming, touching, and all together quite lovely. Full review to come later (maybe)...

What did this movie teach me? "There is no past that we can bring back by longing for it. Only a present that builds and creates itself as the past withdraws."

Surprisingly enjoyable! The cast are perfect, the images of India are beautiful. It was a movie i personally wouldn't have chosen to watch but i'm so glad i did, it was nice to see Judi Dench in something where she isn't constantly pulling a rotten facial expression ALL THE TIME!... read more The comedy in this was totally my type of funny. Yes, it was good, finally after watching so many crap movies lately i find a nice, thoughtful one. I admit though that there are some things that bugged me throughout, which is why i gave it 4 stars and not 5 but for the first time in a long time i can't be bothered listing them in this review because I was so shocked about finding joy in a relatively new release. It's not for everyone but like me you don't know until you try it.

Easily one of my favourite movies of 2012, a superb cast cosy up to the idea that retiring in Britain isn't all it's cracked up to be and decide to head for sunnier climes in India.

Each character is very different and Judi Dench's character Evelyn lets the audience experience what she is seeing; a noisy, vibrant, beautiful and somewhat crazy city that will test them all in various ways, the film also looks gorgeous and the dialogue sparkles as the characters start to get to know each other.
Judi Dench is wonderful and plays Evelyn with charming subtlety whilst Celia Imrie's Madge is straight to the point and has some very funny lines, as does Ronald Pickup's Norman.
Maggie Smith's Muriel is quite hilarious as she displays a complete fish out of water persona and I love her scenes with Seema Azmi's Anokhi, the maid she befriends.
Penelope Wilton is very good at making Jean annoyingly stuffy, but I love the contrast in her relationship with long suffering husband Douglas, who is such a nice and optimistic guy, brilliantly performed by Bill Nighy in one of my favourite film roles for him to date.
Tom Wilkinson also gives a lovely performance as Graham which is quite touching.
Dev Patel is truly brilliant as Sonny as he 'sells' the hotel for all its worth and you can't help but be swept up by his enthusiasm and charm. I also really like Tena Desae as Sonny's girlfriend Sunaina and his Mother played by Lillete Dubey.
Not only is this a sweet, funny and moving film with an amazing cast, the script is what draws you in, it really is a pleasure to spend 2 hours watching these characters and experience a small piece of India just for yourself.
Beautiful, inspiring and heartfelt, watch this to lift your spirits and sooth your soul.

Add a review (optional)..The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is a charming and lovely movie about retired people choosing India as their country of choice. A bit of romance, a lot of adventure.

Dev Patel dances a fine line as the owner-manager of the hotel. At first, he's kind of annoying, bumbling mistakes and inefficiency, but he quickly becomes charmingly adorable. Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, and Tom Wilkinson are assuredly the star performers, however, it would be unfair not to mention that the rest of cast also delivered great performances.

Unless you find the subject boring, I highly recommend it.

"O Exótico Hotel Marigold" conta a história de um grupo de aposentados britânicos que decidem transferir suas aposentadorias para a Índia, local mais econômico e, aparentemente, exótico. Heartwarming little movie with absolutely no surprises (as the fantastic cast delivers superb performances as can be expected of them) - and still very enjoyable. Maggie Smith is especially grand in her role as the very british Muriel Donnelly.
