Whilst Sinbad (Kerwin Mathews) is on his way to Baghdad, transporting the Princess Parisa (Kathryn Grant), who is to become his bride and secure peace between her kingdom and his, the ship encounters ... read more read more...the isle of Colossa. Sinbad and his men are attacked by a gigantic, bestial one-eyed Cyclops, and are saved only when the mysterious magician Sokurah (Torin Thatcher) appears and uses a magic lamp to protect Sinbad's men. But in the process of escaping harm, Sokurah loses the lamp to the Cyclops. He desperately wants to retrieve it and tries to persuade Sinbad to put about and return to Colossa -- but the captain won't jeopardize the safety of the princess or the success of his mission, and the Caliph of Baghdad (Alec Mango) feels the same way, even after Sokurah amazes the court by conjuring up a snake-woman. It is only when the princess is shrunk by an evil spell, the breaking of which requires the shell from the egg of the giant Roc -- which resides on Colossa -- that Sokurah can get his expedition mounted, with Sinbad in command. With a crew made up of a handful of his bravest men and some of the most desperate convicts in the Caliph's prison, he has to contend with potential mutiny at every turn, and the men are driven almost to madness before they even reach Colossa. Once there, they find terrors as great as the Cyclops and the treachery of the magician, but Parisa -- in her tiny state -- also discovers the beautiful world inside the lamp, and the lonely boy genie (Richard Eyer) who inhabits it. They strike the bargain that, when Sinbad's bravery is added to the equation, will bring their quest to an end. If, that is, they can all survive the dangers that Sokurah puts in their path. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi

Seeing Harryhausen's beautiful work presented in gorgeous color sequences is truly something to behold. Films like this kick modern CGI adventure films in the nuts and then urinate on the back of their heads as they are bent double in pain. Matthews is a great leading man. Straig... read moreht faced, romantic, and able to command the screen. Thatcher is a wonderful villain. His creepy voice and seductive tricks make him a love and hate kind of guy. The film may be episodic like so many adventures, but this one starts early with a cyclops attack, making the return there one of more focus. The actors still manage to take center stage amid a fantastic world of effects. The dragon, cyclops, snake lady, giant birds, and skeleton warrior are more fascinating than anything out there today.

A cheesy epic adventure movie, but it's somewhat fun. A pretty good movie, but it could have been better.

From the land beyond beyond, from the valley past hope and fear. I bid you genie now appear.

I honestly thought I hadn't seen this Sinbad movie, but childhood memories came flooding back as soon as I put it on. In particular, I remembered the little princess visiting the sulky boy genie in the lamp, and also how inconsolable I'd been as a kid when Sinbad's crew killed th... read moree poor baby Roc bird ("Awww, bless! Waaaaahhh!!!!!!!!!!"). Colourful but flatly directed, the stellar contributions of composer Bernard Herrmann and stop-motion effects genius Ray Harryhausen give "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" a touch of class it doesn't really deserve. Of the cast, only Torin Thatcher, as the evil magician Sokurah, Richard Eyer, as the genie, and Mrs Bing Crosby (Kathryn Grant), as Princess Parisa, deliver the goods; Kerwin Matthews is hands down the dreariest seafarer ever to point a scimitar at a plasticine monster. Harryhausen's swordfighting skeleton anticipates his wonderful work on "Jason & the Argonauts".

Sinbad movies are great! I like the stop-motion animation by Ray Harryhausen. It's a great fantasy adventure.

One of the best Sinbad films, this classic swashbuckler has some inventive Harryhausen effects, fun monsters and a great baddie in the form of Torin Thatcher. Great family fun.

A landmark in terms of visual effects - Harryhausen was a genius. This movie absolutely swept me away as a youngster.
