Never mind the slight slow points and somewhat repetitive battle scenes. This is an original, interesting and entertaining story with very strong characters, fairly good production and directing and surprisinly impressive action sequences. It is a truly underrated and entertainin... read moreg classic.

It inspired Frank Miller to write and draw "300". That's the only nice thing I can say about this long, dull, pretentious, plodding, and dated epic.

    An impressive tale hokily rendered.

Not as flashy as the new "300" but it was sill a good watch

A more accurate account of the Battle of Thermopylae, but less stylish and violent than 300. I believe Miller said this movie was his primary inspiration for that story. If you're interested in Greek history this is worth watching.

The starting point for Frank Miller's depiction of the Battle of Thermopylae. After viewing, you can defineately tell where the influences come from. I would highly recomend this movie if you're into Greek warfare or Frank Miller. The dialogue is somewhat lacking in dynamics, bu... read moret overall a pretty descent movie.

Pretty boring. But I guess it was big time business for when it was made. I guess I was spoiled with 300.

Rememebr this is a movie made at a time before the special effects we are accustomed to today were available. having said that. The movie follows the old greek mythology about King Leonidas and his personal guard holing the pass of Themopaly. what is good about about it was hi... read mores the special tactics that his troops employed and actually held off the the Persian warriors. What was bad about it was the treachery and deciet tha ultimately caused his defeat. I give it a thumbs up. it's worth seeing if only to compare to 300.

This is he movie that Miller aw as a youngster that gave him the story and platform for this graphic novel that eventually became the 2007 box office hit "300". This film is spectaculer in its own right for its time. It also delivers the story in a more historic way with emphasis... read more on democractic freedom and the republic state. The 300 Spartans legendary battle at Thermopylae is led by Leonides (Eagan) after he secretly decides to risk it all by going to the pass without the reinforcements needed because he felt the time would run out on all Sparta, and tother Greecian states. He also got some intervention from an Oracle who gravely advice its him or his country. Farrar, who plays Xerxes with precision, makes his power known but is outwitted and outfought by the purest of soldiers, the Spartan elite. With this 1962 movie version, theincredible events of the 300 that eradicated an army of 10,000 of its men became a popular phenomenon that was once heralded only in military history. although some of the numbers and actual tactics of the occurence is disputed, the shear heroism has never been overshadowed. Discipline, selflessness and understanding the lay of the land have not been underestimated in armies thereafter. It also solidify Sparta as a military powerhouse. altgough the battle scenes are sanitized to our standards, the film is still poignant. The traitor, a Greek goat herder, turns envious and spiteful, decides to make himself rich with his knowledge of a alternate & rarely used route into Sparta from Thermopylae. This is the end of Leonides and other Allies from other city states, whose help fortifies Leonides, keeping Xerxes at bay for about 7days. Costuming, backdrop and more drama than spills make this movie an excellent viewing and time well spent.

The battles seem more realistic because they are done essentially like a stage play in real time. This requires real skill and training. Full Review

Tecnicamente eficiente (especialmente no que diz respeito aos figurinos), o filme dilui sua fascinante base histórica em romances proibidos, diálogos superficiais e batalhas desinteressantes.
