The Zoo is the hottest disco in town, and on the night of the big dance contest, a wild assortment of disparate characters find themselves out on the floor together. Nicole (Donna Summer) is a bumbling but beautiful neophyte singer who schemes to earn her big break on the disco's stage. Frannie and Jeannie (Valerie Landsberg and Terri Nunn) are underage high school girls who need the contest prize money to buy Kiss concert tickets. A bored married couple (Mark Lonow and Andrea Howard) stumble into the Zoo on their anniversary; their relationship is tested by a wacky pill-popping vixen (Marya Small) and the disco's womanizing owner (Jeff Goldblum). A host of mismatched singles make the scene hoping for a chance at love (or at least a one night stand), though the exuberant Marv "Leather Man" Gomez (Chick Vennera) lives only to dance, and expounds on his philosophy at length. There's plenty of thumping disco action and nothing but happy endings in this colorful period comedy. ~ Fred Beldin, Rovi

Great soundtrack, terrible script. Thank God It's Friday is too dumb and not so funny, the movie try imitate anothers comedy of 70's, what don't works, just worse. Rotten.

I know, generally people think that all the disco movies are trying to be like Saturday Night Fever, but this one isn't, it's just a comedy that takes place one night at a disco. This movie has a lot of really funny jokes, I especially liked the one involving Goldblum. Plus, we... read more get a fantastic performance from Donna Summer. I really like this movie, it's fun.

I'll admit that it;s been awhile since I saw this, but it was a light hearted (and horribly dated) romp through the disco era. Basically a look at the comings and goings at a disco. Disco queen Donna Summers is featured as a local gal trying to get a break and sing a song at th... read moree disco. Good cheesy disco fun.

"Say, brother, you got the wrong idea. I'm workin' for the Commodores.... Yeah, brother, and I'm Baretta."

Hopelessly dated & unfunny. They didnt even dance much. I saw this once on a Saturday as a kid & thought it was soo funny. After viewing it again, just what was I think... read moreing? I know alot of critics and movie buffs hate this movie but this is one of those guilty pleasures for me. Disco was popular in the late 70's and Saturday Night Fever started the short movie trend but I really liked the characters in this film even though it wasn't the most well th... read moreought out comedy screenplay. What was unintentionally brilliant about this film was that all the characters who came together that night at the Zoo disco were larger than life stereotypes that represented the free spirited late 70's well. You had the playboy club owner, the conservative older couple, the two underage high school girls, the Hispanic disco king, the cool disc jockey, the mismatched computer daters, the wannabe singer, the drugged out ex-hippy scatterbrain, the boy next door and girl next door who of course don't find each other until the end and they are all surrounded by polyester wearing boors and spandex wearing airheads, set to the music of Donna Summer & the Commodores. The movie had many funny moments but the best was when the conservative husband Dave, who didn't even want to be there hooked up with the ex-hippy scatterbrain and after feeding him numerous drugs consisting of uppers and downers decides to rename him "Babakazoo".

i remember going 2 the premire of this and everyone just loved it back then now its a little dated but still a look at the era and a one time notorious nightspot Oskos disco.

Now here's a blast from the past! Wow was a great movie in the 70's, but now might not be so good lol. But just wanted to say have a good weekend and THANK GOD ITS FRIDAY!

Yes its my last dance, last dance for love!!! Okay, this film is as old as me yet I remember it scene for scene. I love it. Certainly one of the worst movies to ever win an Oscar. Juvenile, silly and very shallow. Rarely funny with exaggerated characters. Very dated now to boot, but even in 1978 it stunk.

"Thank God It's Friday" has the best disco soundtrack ever.. Much better than Saturday Night Fever.

The story is minimal but cute..but if you were around in the disco era and went to discos this movie will take you back and make you smile .This is another movie I can watch over and over and it only becomes more endearing.
A must for disco fans or people that are curious about the late 70's early 80's club culture.

Forgettable '70s musical fluff, over produced, not that listenable.

There is a transvestite who takes about eight hours in the men's bathroom to electric shave his bust, making him the only gay in this disco (aside from Debra Winger's AC/DC dance partner). Full Review
