Inspired by the Thunderbirds, a popular 1960s children's series, Team America: World Police uses similarly styled, but significantly more crass, marionette puppets in lieu of computer-generated images to breath life into an elite group of adventurers known as Team America. Their mission: to travel the world, root out its terrorists, and keep evil at bay. Aside from intentionally employing all of the hallmarks of standard action-adventure blockbuster formulas, from a prototypical hero to his communist arch-rival, the film also boasts the occasional musical number. The puppets were created by Norman Tempia along with Charles and Stephen Chiodo, the brothers behind the cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Team America: World Police is not based on Team America, a 1980s series from Marvel Comics, which followed a patriotic team of racecar drivers. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

Very, very funny but not quite as clever as the South Park boys could have done. Full review later.

    "Freedom hangs by a thread"

Popular Broadway actor Gary Johnston is recruited by the elite counter-terrorism organization Team America: World Police. As the world begins to crumble around him, he must battle with terrorists, celebrities and falling in love.

Outstanding achievement by the Trey Parker/South Park school of film satire, using puppets to lampoon American foreign policy but attacking the far left as well as the right wing 'save the world from terrorism' gung-ho attitude. It might seem a tall order to keep the momentum going, but the fast pace, sharp wit and endless characters being lampooned rises to the challenge. The crack 'World Police' team (based on 'Thunderbirds are GO') follow information from a computer code-named 'Intelligence' that sometimes makes mistakes. As they hunt down real and suspected terrorists they manage an enormous amount of overkill in collateral damage, wreaking havoc on architectural wonders of the world. Their main enemies are coordinated not by Osama bin Laden (all Middle East terrorists look the same and speak a silly language made up of a few words like 'Lada, Lada, Jihad') but by the North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il.

Their other opponents are limp wrested leftists in the Hollywood community (Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Michael Moore etc) who mouth off inanities about world peace under the umbrella organisation the Film Actors Guild (FAG). Awful Hollywood movies (like Pearl Harbor) also get it in the neck. Includes lots of foul language and puppets having graphic sex, so avoid it if such things shock you.

Puppets creep the hell outta me. Team America: World Police is a funny and cool movie that is so idiotic and dumb that it was geniuses like Matt Stone and Trey Parker who did it. The plot says a lot about cliche action films and as I look back its actually a really funny story... read more seeing how cliche and dumb it was. The voice acting was good, but there were so many old voices from South Park (a show Matt and Trey also created) so it was hard not to picture them in this. The action was actually pretty good, seeing as they are puppets, but just knowing they are puppets made it funnier. This movie was good, it wasn't as good as Matt and Treys South Park Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, but its still a very funny and original film, but those puppets creeped me out.

Funny at times. I didn't really understand it all that much but the songs and some of the scenes made me laugh out loud. A must see!

Trey Parker and Matt Stone were never exactly effective directors. The creators of South Park have made one great film (South Park, Bigger, Longer and Uncut) and one bad one (Orgazmo). With Team America: Worl Police they bring an interesting concept to their unique brand of humou... read morer. The premise is basically a more vulgar version of The popular 1960's TV show Thunderbirds. The result is a film that is crude, obscene and very funny. However this film is not for everyone. You can expect something from the creators of South Park to be totally off the wall, and Team America is most certainly that. However, theres a smart hidden under this veneer of vulgarities and obscenities and you have to admire Parker and Stone's idea behind the film. The humour here is very silly and crude, but if you're looking for a good laugh, you should check out this film. The film doesn't rival the South Park film, but Matt Stone & Trey Parker create something memorable here. The film has everything you'd expect from something created by the creators of South Park, crude, vulgar humour, memorable quotes and scenes and insane characters. This is one comedy that really delivers big laughs, but it's not a film for everyone. But to those who like this type of humour, you'll have a blast watching this.

"I'll rip your fuckin' balls off and stuff them up your ass. So, the next time you shit, you'll shit all over your balls! Got it?" This quote pretty much sums up the level of humour from "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone's take on the conflict in the Middle East, w... read moreith their usual offensive and riotously funny approach.
"Team America" are an anti-terrorist group who claim to be the "world police", bringing democracy and the American way to people 'less fortunate than them'. During a terrorist busting mission in France, one of their team is killed-in-action which results in the team's decision to replace him with an actor. Their intention being, to bring down the terrorist organisations and dictators with someone on their side who can infiltrate 'the baddies' using their acting chops.
More a pastiche of the old marionette puppet show "Thunderbirds" and several Hollywood blockbusters than a political satire. It's a bit overlong and doesn't always hit the mark but it's very hard to dismiss a film that has a recurrent song with lyrics like..."America, Fuck yeah! Lick my butt and suck on my balls". Profane but absolutely hilarious. It's ridicules everyone from the Taliban to North Korean dictator Kim-Jong Il and left wing politicised actors, namely Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Matt Damon among others, as well as the gung-ho destructive and ignorant nature of America. It doesn't take prisoners, any political or celebrity figure who CAN get the piss taken out of them, DO get the piss taken out of them and political correctness goes out the window from the get go.
The puppets are uproariously funny but this is definitely not for the easily offended. However, if you like your humour a little (or a lot) more risque, then this is for you. Fuck yeah!!!

Political satire at its best! It's sort of become a tradition now among me and my friends to see this about once a year, as it's one of extremely few films that we all love equally. And given the hilarious dialogue and incredibly catchy songs, maybe it's no wonder. If you ask me,... read more you'd have to be a really boring and humorless prude not to like this movie. Just the fact that it bashes and makes fun of Michael Bay makes into a real winner.

Totally un-pc and controversial too. A novelty film in the style of Thunderbirds puppets mixed with adult humour. It?s a watchable movie in that ?it offends everybody so it?s ok? kind of way.

"Team America: World Police" is a great sendoff to one of the most turbulent times in American history, and "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, both equal opportunity offenders, pull no strings (no pun intended) with this hilarious and blazingly satiric model of the... read more United States and its supposed role in world affairs.

But again, what better way is there to remember the tumultuous reign of the U.S. and its War on Terror than to make a movie that satirizes the living hell out of both? Like their previous effort "South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut," they take chances that no other filmmaker in America is ever willing to take, and that is to be as crude and vulgar as humanly possible for 90 minutes straight.

Anyone expecting an anti-Bush treatise like "Fahrenheit 9/11" or a pro-Kerry ad campaign will be sorely mistaken. It's really best that liberals and conservatives both stay as far away from this movie as possible, as they both get their fair share of bashing. Parker and Stone have even said that anyone who thinks it should be used to sway votes is a "f**king idiot." America itself seems to be at the top of their hit list, or at least American bravado is.

As a casual fan of "South Park," I understand that Trey Parker and Matt Stone go to the extreme in making fun of American culture and lampooning people they don't like. Already they've gotten "fan" mail from Sean Penn, who is understandably upset over his portrayal in the film, as well as several other liberal celebrities who are portrayed as being backstabbing morons.

But I'm not really here to argue political bias in this film (George W. Bush has got to go come November 2nd, in case anyone wants to know), and the perfect satire has come to fuel the fire of the most important election in United States history.

"Team America: World Police" is hugely inspired by the "Thunderbirds" marionette cartoons that aired during the 1960s, and it shows us a TEAM of Americans that POLICE the WORLD. North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il has weapons of mass destruction and has implemented plans to use them. So Team America goes to work to foil his evil plans. In doing so, they lay waste to several world landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Sphinx, and the Egyptian pyramids.

"America" parades through virtually every action movie cliché imaginable, most notably from the films of producer Jerry Bruckheimer, whose "Pearl Harbor" (2001) gets lampooned the worst; they even hit "Top Gun" (1986).

There is no question that "Team America: World Police" is inspired and imaginative film-making, made by two creative geniuses who LOVE to push the envelope anywhere they can. Liberal Hollywood celebrities get some of the worst bashing here, with political gadfly Michael Moore playing the part of a hot dog-munching suicide bomber and Alec Baldwin as the leader of the Film Actors Guild (F.A.G., get it?). But conservatives aren't off the hook either, as their politics of U.S. intervention in every world affair is taken to ridiculous heights, hence the title "World Police."

"Team America: World Police" is a brilliant satire of our times, of course that doesn't make it safe from the detractors who claim that Parker and Stone are irresponsible morons. Indeed, there are smarter ways to approach such sensitive material, but Parker and Stone aren't intellectuals who are out to change the world, they're just two guys who like to fool around and make people laugh.
